What needs to be done to the JC4 vacuum pump to get it to run?
I have connected the A & C pins to ground and the B & D pins to 12 Volt positve power source but cannot get it to run.
Is there some other signal that needs to go to the remaining two pins?
I have two pumps and neither works. I am stumped.

By their design, MOST all battery chargers are not intended to power
ANYTHING. They are to charge batteries. They tend to produce very poorly
filtered DC (one theory being that pulsed DC charges batteries better.
The "dumb" chargers produce much higher than 12V out until they see the
load of the battery and so-called "smart" chargers produce NO voltage
until they do their battery-type analysis.

I have no idea as to the output waveform of the
two new PD-9245 units I just received, but the
no load voltage is close to 13.55V on each.
Until I recieved N6MON's note below, I was
planning to ask if they could be used as a
power supply (without a battery load) but
as I suspected, probably not.

Mac,
I have a PD 45 amp, not yet installed. When I installed landscape lights I used it for the power source -- until I decided on an outdoor installed transformer with timer and light activation.
Some have alos mentioned using their old buzz box for landscape lights or a bench top power supply.

I have not looked at the PD converters, but they are strictly speaking,
not battery chargers (although that IS one of their functions), they are
power converters and may work standalone. They are switching power
supplies and DO generate some RFI in the (if I remember right) 40M band
(at least the 2 that I have looked at do). I have a dead PD9245 to look
at and see if I can resurrect it. Hopefully I will then look at it
standalone and see what it looks like.

I have a large three-output converter/charger with one shorted
output from my boat which was destroyed in a February storm.
One of these days, I will take a whack at fixing that short. It has
a pretty good output capability. I think it is a ferro-resonant unit.

I have one of those "smart alek" chargers.
Here is what I know.... If your battery is dead, no voltage, the charger will not work.
If the battery is very low voltage, the battery charger will not work.
We tried to charge a low battery and the charger acted like there was no battery. We had to connect another 12v battery to get the charger to kick on. Once the battery built up some voltage, the second battery could be removed and the charger continued to charge the battery in question.
If the "smart alek" charger is connected to a device other than a battery, it will not work because it does not sense voltage.
I like the charger when it works but sometimes my batteries are dead, and that makes charging them more difficult.
Some of these "smart alek" chargers also sense polarities and wont work if it is wrong.
I was told that the charger is intended to sense voltage to prevent igniting the explosive gas the battery can emit. It is a safety thought, that works for one thing and not so good for another.

I have one (of those "smart alek" chargers) that keeps thinking my Audi battery is a 6v battery and will not provide more than 7.5 volts. It WILL NOT go into manual mode even though there is a button that says "manual."
Sometimes you want "dumb" things.
The Audi has a draw on the battery that, if not driven every couple of weeks, will draw the battery down below what the charger thinks is a 12 volt battery. I keep a "tender" on it now...
