Planning a trip from Arizona to Banff and then over to the Vancouver area and back down via west coast beginning August. Any suggestions for camping in Banff and Vancouver areas? Thanks.

The was a nice one in the park north of Lake Louise near the junction of Highway 1 and Highway 93. I haven't been there since 2001 so maybe some of the local will give you some better ideas.

Hi Armand

For Banff - go online for "Tunnel Mountain Campground" reserve ahead for
sure.
The Vancouver area has a few good campsites - just depends on what you want
to do there.
you can email me direct and i will help you with this
dwayne@havenproperties.ca

For Banff - plan on the drive between Banff and jasper - Awesome scenery -
Ice Field.

Armand,

Don't fail to enjoy the hot springs. We didn't know they existed and
only stumbled up one as we headed west out of Banff NP (may have
already been in Kootenay NP). Thank goodness we found that one. Sure
wish I was in one right now with my sore back and leg! No question it
was the best one I've ever been in. Much better than anything Hot
Springs, AR or any of the "natural" ones in CA, etc.

I'm sure the natives will tell you where the best ones are; we didn't
have time for more than the one.

We've also got a Radium Springs. Right down the road from us, less
than 40 miles:

http://www.google.com/search?q=radium+springs,+ga&hl=en&safe=off&nord=1&biw=853&bih=544&site=webhp&prmd=ivnsm&tbm=isch &tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=NsQMTqXCJ8q10AHZ752lDg&ved=0CDUQsAQ

http://goo.gl/IGkMo

Unfortunately, ours almost DON'T exist any longer. Yesterday's news
announced that the fish are dying because of the stagnant water where
there should be a flow of 70,000 gpm of 68*F water -- the largest
spring in GA. The drought we're having is taken its toll.

TransCanada hiway near Hope, BC is blocked. Big mud slide. Should be cleared up in a few days.
When in Banff and Jasper, stay away from the elk. They own the place and have been known to stomp on people. Not a pretty sight.
Don't drive your motorhome in to Vancouver. period

I might not remember not to drive into Vacouver (just as I didn't know
not to drive on Key West with a 40' SOB+toad) unless I know why (on
Key West it was 'cause I was gonna wind up on a narrow dead end
street).

Driving in just about any large City in our coaches is not for the faint at
heart. I have taken our coach thru the city a few times. I know the city
well and know where and where not to go and to park. I am not too expensive
to hire as your guide!!!!! not in pecos either.
There are also definitely certain times not to drive in and out of
Vancouver.
That is why we live in White Rock - looking out over the blue water of the
Bay that separates us from Blaine Washington.
We love their 4th of July Fireworks.

August 1st weekend is our Torchlite Parade - held at night of course and
this year I am entering both our 77 Eleganza II and 77 Kingsley into the
parade.
Did last year and got great response.

Also entering our Coach into the Langley Cruise-in held in Langley BC Sept
10th (approx 2000 entries) Join me!!!!

Just kidding, Dwayne. My loathing of big cities makes it very
unlikely that I'll be driving through them if there's a way around.
:-)

I was very surprised last year when my son and family took their X-PB
to Chicago. While my son tended to business, the DIL drove the coach
into the city to take the boys to the famous sights.

Hey, Dwayne, where is the Torchlite Parade, time and date, for August 1
weekend? Bob and I may be in the area and it sounds like fun.

If you want to visit downtown Vancouver, Stanley Park, Gastown, etc., park east of Vancouver and take the Sky Train in.
Dwayne may be able to tell you where to park and hop the train. You could also go in to Richmond, which is south of the big city, park there and hop the Canada Line. If you do, make sure you admire the Schindler escalators that I installed...

July 31st Sunday - starts in the evening - We entered our coach last year
and had rope lighting - got a 2nd place for the Light Catagory.

White Rock, BC Canada - it has floats and entries from places in
Washington as well as local.

This year we are entering both our coaches.

We live SW of Victoria on an east facing hillside. The 4th is great. We get fireworks from Port Angeles around to the San Juan Islands. The best for some reason are at Roche Harbor. The tradition is a glass of white and binoculars from the sunroom.

Armand

If you come to the Island, the best way to return to the US is via the MV Coho. Victoria to Port Angeles. No long waits for customs and you bypass Seattle traffic.
