I think I have seen other Sat phones much cheaper.
What makes this one special?

You can always rent a satellite phone for $28 per week. Of course, that
doesn't get you a bridge to WiFi but you could call someone and say: "As
soon as I get to McDonald's I'll send you an email."
Of course, with the Football all you'd need to do is subscribe to a
satellite service for $50 a month. (Pricing may vary along the Colorado
River).

There really ARE scenes like that to be experienced!. If you ever
have the opportunity, go to Toroweap Point on the north rim of the
Grand Canyon. You can literally get out of your vehicle, lay on your
stomach and peer 3000 feet down to the Colorado River -- I wouldn't
try it standing up -- the wind can be fierce. Awesome views even to
the most jaded. Plan to spend the night.
The 54 mile gravel road down to the point would not have been a
challenge for the GMC when we were there so the next time I'll try it.
If the conditions are too bad, I park at Pipe Springs, NM about 9
miles east of the turnoff to Toroweap. That's a do not miss site
also.

I just watched the video and am amazed that it was built with a handrail
that you can climb up on and then jump over the glass.
I'll bet after the first person goes up and over that'll get changed.
Especially when the family of the person that does it sues whoever built it
and blames it on them!

That might make the visit to the regular area on the north rim (S. of
Jacob Lake) worthwhile; otherwise I wouldn't waste the gas, but
proceed to Toroweap.
It is surprising that there's no more protection. IIRC, it was built
by an Indian tribe. They may be exempt from OSHA, or whomever.

Well that's it then.
I can just imagine the meeting between the Indians and the architect /
engineers (A/E) that discussed the handrail / glass wall.
A/E: We must install a glass wall that cannot visitors cannot climb over.
Indians: Not necessary!
A/E: Why not?
Indians: If paleface want to jump let him; install steps!
