My Onan started leaking oil profusely this afternoon from the oil pressure shutdown switch. Not sure I'll find the ones listed in the 2008 interchange book here in Cody WY. What is the VW application that will fit? Onan is a 6 KW.

NAPA # OP6283 = Borg Warner # S310
Light Type 3 - 8.3 psi
1/8 x 27 NPT
Chrysler 62 - 78 & 82 - 85
Jeep 55 - 59
Numerous other Chrysler products circa 70s -

NAPA OP6074 or OP6282.should also work.

It has has to be a 1/4" x 27 NPT (national pipe thread - it must be tapered pipe thread) Be careful, some have 28 thread per inch bolt thread and that will not work.

I bought one at Autozone once but I don't have the number.

Hey guys, look out!! Those VW low oil switches are DIN pipe threads, not
SAE.. They might screw in, BUT they are sure to leak or strip the threads.
Better to get one from a Vega or similar car.

There is a NAPA a Carquest and and O'Rielly's in Cody. I think there is one or two others. I know because I went to several of them when last in Cody trying to find a part to fit another owner's GMC. Surely one of them will have the right pressure switch. I don't think the VW one has the right threads on it. You need 1/4" x 27 pipe thread, not a metric thread.

Emery,

You've inadvertently provided conflicting information below see *****. I
believe the 1/8 x 27 is correct.

What is a replacement oil pressure switch for the Onan?
NAPA # OP6282 = Borg Warner # S310 (Light Type 3 - 8.3 psi, 1/8 x 27 NPT,
Chrysler 62 - 78 & 82 - 85, Jeep 55 - 59, numerous other Chrysler products
circa 70s - 80s. The switch cost $5.99; the socket to install it cost $4.99.
Don't forget to get the socket 'cause it's almost impossible to install the
switch without it & easy with it. (Ken Henderson 1-19-00)

Thanks to everyone for the help on the oil pressure switch. Lucked out at the Cody NAPA - parts man was old school. None of the numbers was in stock so he got out the book and found one with a screw terminal. Box contained a male tab for a the female spade on the wire. Worked perfect. NAPA #OP6075. I bought the special socket as well. Waste of money as there is no way to get it on the switch. Not enough room.

My oil pressure Switch on the Onan leaked so I replaced it this spring and I don't recall any problems removing or installing. I have way too many tools so if it needed something special I don't remember, but it was easy.

Youn need to use a socket that is 12 point.
It can easily be damaged if you apply pressure to only 2-4 places on the sensor.
