As of this afternoon Nick Knowlton and his wife, Darlene, have a GMC. They
purchased our 1978 Royale Rear Bath.

They arrived in Louisville from Sugar Hill, GA yesterday afternoon. Nick
crawled around with a flashlight looking at what was right or what was
wrong. He did notice a few things which proved he could see and knew what he
was looking doing. This morning we set the ride height, checked the tires
for air, drove around an 11 mile loop, and put refrigerant in the AC for the
dash. The generator started well and the 403 sounded like it should and even
started without a problem since I put in a new battery.

Thank goodness I made more off of it than I paid for it -- squeaked by with
$1,100 to the good (if you don't count the cost for the stuff we put on it
since taking ownership in 2007 -- Ramco mirrors, Ragusa step, toilet, tub,
sinks and faucets, ceiling, upholstery, Eagle wheels, captains chairs, etc.)
All in all, not bad for today's economy and the GMC being for personal
enjoyment and not financial investment.

He's heading back to Sugar Hill (near Buford and Southland Motorhome) by way
of Lexington, Knoxville, Ashville, Hickory, Gastonia, Spartanburg, and
Greenville. If you see a silver GMC with black around the windows and red
pinstripe be sure to honk.

With the coach went a good bit of my heart. Some of you know what I mean and
others of you won't understand. It's almost like "a Jeep thing" except it's
worse. But, the memories and the friends made while driving it will last a
lifetime. At the end of the day, it's the people that own or have owned
these beautiful things that are important, not the things.

Byron,

You didn't so much sell it as find it a new home.

When I thought I had a buyer for my coach years ago was when I decided that it was more a part of the family than just a vehicle. Hence, they deserve the place like that I had always reserved for the vessels in my life.

Byron,

What can I say...Congratulations on achieving what you wanted, but
deep sadness at your no longer having a GMC. Sure hope your GMCness
won't wear off and that you'll stick with us -- until some GMC seduces
you into abandoning that SOB!

NE GA is again becoming a hotbed of GMC activity! Too bad that corner
of the state is "cain't git there from here" from us.

Ken,

I understand your sentiment and resonate with it. I doubt that my GMCness
will wear off. It had been building since 1976 and it'll take a good while
for it to go away. You know, there are several former owners that still feel
get a certain feeling when they get around TZEs.

Yes, GA has picked up a handful of new owners in the last six months. It
must be in the water.

Johnny,

As far as I'm concerned I'm not out of the bidnis yet. I'm just not a
current owner. However, something may be in the works for having a 1/3rd
interest in a frame and body that has that magic code - TZE.

Besides, we're committed for doing pancakes at GMCES and GMCMI rallies.

See why it's worse that "a Jeep thing"?

BTW, got your membership app on Friday. I'll reply to your note later. Glad
you joined.

Say, link up with Nick in the near future. I'll send you his contact info
off net. He has five years before he hopes to collect Social Insecurity so
he still has a spring to his step.

Bill,

Yep. In remission. It may be temporary.

Say, I'm not leaving the GMC crowd unless I'm kicked out or tarred and
feathered (and that's illegal now days).

Ted,

So, you're the "person" he spoke of.

Your secret's safe. He didn't say much other than he knew someone that had
one. He also went to Southland and talked at length with Zeb Frady, Jr. He
was sold before he got here. You know what it's like to have that feeling.

You'll be able to compare notes. Ask him if he knows how to do a walk around
before pulling off.

When I had plants in hard to get at places (top of red mountain in Birmingspam comes to mind, and a couple of Okies ones) I ran Jeeps.  If you absolutely got to get there regardless, there's Jeeps and there's Everything Else.  Once I got all of them on paved ground (Atlanta) I went for an Econoline.  The 4WD gets about a 15% penalty to buy, ruin, and maintain.

Byron

Y'All don't forget George Zhookoff in Snellville & David Shattuck in
Lilburn. Y'All are all right there close together; you should get up
a caravan to Nocalulla Falls. If anyone needs 'phone numbers, let me
know & I'll send them off-net.

There's also a guy in Marietta (Dan Hummer) that joined Eastern States a
year ago.

In fact, last night I was thinking someone needs to organize a drive-in
rally around Buford and see what shows up. If the date was right, I'd be
there. It would provide an excuse to get by Athens and visit family.

Pick a date and come on down!
I got hold of Mr Walton today, and the fine folks at the Falls.  I'll be there, most likely with The JazzMan.  Paula says she and Daughter are gonna do the Shakespear Thang in teh city, go ahead to Cullman.  Particularly if I take the puppy.  We'll get in some time Friday evening.

Johnny
And JazzMan, the BWD
