This came from the Revcon forum but there are so few first generation Revcons among them there is not so much good knowledge.

The owner says it dropped out of third several times at the end of a long trip. The following it shifted good for about ten miles then dropped out of third again.

Is this anything a major failure?

Sounds similar to what Dan experienced when his governor failed. Didn't the weights beocme sheared?

Check his blog for the whole story...

The question is does it quit pulling completely or shift back to second after warmup?

If it shifts back to second, it could be the governor, the modulator, or the down shift solenoid (passing gear), or vacuum loss to the modulator.
