Hi, Tried to start Onan after a few months, turned over fine, plugs sparked good but nothing at the points, placed screwdriver between points got a good spark so assumed points faulty. Replaced points and condensor same thing! Plugs sparking nothing at the points till a screwdriver is put between points.
Any and all advice welcomed.

If you have spark then your points are good. Check your fuel supply your pump maybe bad or you have a crack in the incoming fuel line to your pump and it is sucking air. I had that hapen to me once. Last resort is squirt a little gas in carb. dont look down the carb when you do and try cranking. You gotta have spark, Fuel , and compression all at the right time to run.

I fought getting the points set properly for a long time... cussing the whole time at the Onan designers (more likely the accountants) that put that backwards point housing that you can not see into without a mirror.
I gave up and did a Pertronix conversion. That Onan runs great now. Maybe someday I'll get the points set as a back-up.

If you want to do this mod:
Look for the cheapest module you can find. Any part number will do if it is 12 volt negative ground. Most use the 1181 module that is for pre-HEI GM motors. Do not pay for the "LS" type... they do not use magnets.

If wiggling a screw driver between the points gives you a spark at the plug but not when you crank it I would say (1) the points are not adjusted properly (2)the points are not making proper electrical contact (run a metal contact file between them) they must be grounding properly or they wouldn't spark with the screw driver trick.

Denis,
If you getting fuel to the coarb bowl but not into the carb, pull the carb and clean the passage from the float bowl. Since it has not been run in several months the gas may have gummed up there -- similar occurence on my 4K recently.
If you mean you are seeing fuel at the gasket where the carb attaches to the manifold -- you may have a large air leak at that gasket preventing it from starting.

un, problem now is i noticed fuel around float bowl assumed it was the gasket
o replaced that. When i crank it for some time i see fuel soaking through
asket at manifold and when i checked the plugs they are dry, thought they would
ave signs of fuel but nothing!
What am i missing? Should i be looking more closely at the carb/float assembly?
