I am looking for a manufacturer and part number, or application and
year, for the rear wheel bearing seals. Any help will be appreciated.

Dave,

I recently got some of the correct 21771 seals at the NAPA warehouse here on Ecorse Road. When I looked at the slip, they were listed as NOS.

You might try the NAPA on So. Industrial at Jewet (used to be called Woodside several decades gone). If they can't get you the correct part, look me up, when I saw they were right, I bought spares.

G'day,

The Napa seals may be packed in an SKF box, when you open the box you may
find CR stamped on the seals - Chicago Rawhide.

To make sure the seals are OK bring something that is 1/4" thick. Take the
seal out of the box an try and put it on the counter with the side you see
when it is installed up. If the 1/4" thick item will slide between the
counter and the seal it's OK or if it barely grazes it the seal is OK. If it
hits the rubber and wants to roll it the seal is bad.

I haven't been following this thread so pardon me if what I've noted above
and the following link has already been provided:

Netters,

I just received some rear wheel bearing seals that I had purchased on Rockauto.

These were listed on the website as " SKF 21771 " and when I received the seals
they were in 'CR Services' boxes. The boxes also stated that CR Services was
'An SKF Company'.

I thought I would try Rob Mueller's test on them but not having any quarter inch
stock, I measured a stack of 5 dimes to be close. The first two seals passed the test
and then I pulled out the third. This seal was a bit different and would not pass Rob's
test.

All three seals had boxes marked on the end '21771' but there was also a scanner code
label on each box that were all the same except for a code in the upper right hand
corner. For the two correct seals it was 'P32' but for the incorrect seal it was 'O31'.

It was discussed at the Mansfield rally that the SKF 21771 was the correct seal to use
but it appears that it could still be incorrect.

Any other opinions or experiences?

Larry

Anything made by man is subject to slight production variations. Where the
back of the seal is rolled to guide the seal into place can get rolled in
so far that it will rub on the spindle. Metal shavings enter the lube. Bad
juju.

Sorry, but that's not the case here.

The one that failed the test is definitely different from the other
two. The rubber seal is a slightly different design and the codes
on the scanner label indicates that it was not manufactured as the other
two.
