What would be considered a GOOD price for a new one of these?

Mac,

Anything below $149 would be a bargain in view of the price PD's
selling reconditioned units for:

http://www.progressivedyn.com/hotdeals.html

I guess it's been long enough, and enough newbies have arrived, that I
should re-tell the tale of why PD's are so popular here: 8-10 years
ago I replaced a failed Statpower 40, then one of the most popular
converters, with a reconditioned PD9140 and Charge Wizard; it came
with a 1 yr warranty, as do their new products.

About 2 years after that, I had a problem with the PD -- the solder
joint securing one of the output terminals to the PC board failed.
The sort of failure I expect to see in power supplies of any sort due
to thermal cycling. I repaired the problem myself in a few minutes.
After I mentioned it here, so others could watch for it and repair it
easily, someone sent a copy of the posting to Progressive Dynamics.

Almost immediately I got an email with a request to call PD. When I
did, they practically demanded that I return the long-out-of-warranty
reconditioned unit for their examination. I didn't want to be
bothered, but they were very insistent, so I accepted the new
replacement unit. And the several Charge Wizards they donated for GMC
rally door prizes.

There's no way to even guess how many converter sales that outstanding
customer support has earned them, but I'd bet it's well over 100.

Here's the one I mentioned. I just bought two;
one for my GMC and one for my 30' travel trailer.

Nah, I'd go for the same vendor's ebay # 150622099785
45 AMP RV POWER CONVERTER CHARGER W/ AC/DC PANEL PD4045
which looks like similar electronics with a distribution panel.
Good vendor, thanks for the lead.

Mac,

That's a good deal, you might want to get the pendant so you can see what
mode it's in.

Yep, what Rob said. You are going to wish you had the pendant someday. Got one on mine and I get to overide the PD's decision on which mode it is in. Pretty slick.

A great price-- that a stupid cheap price for that machine.  Stupid to the point
of madness!  Through that standard line of distribution, cost on that unit from
the authorized PD Dynamics wholesaler the unit is over $150 cost to me plus
shipping!  Good thing I don't really sell them and expect to try and make a
living off them.  The company has cut off their head of their dealer network so
go for it man, buy that.  In fact I would call you a fool if you did not!

This is a perfect example of a guy somewhere in a "hone booth" selling boxes,
the manufactuere dropped their drawers so everyone should step up and have a go
at it.  What this will ultimatley lead to is no future sales for the
manufacturer because it's the dealer structure that exposes their product to the
market.  They have screwed all of those people so my guess is down the road,
smart dealers will shy away from PD Dynamic unit sales.  Thats the reality of
marketing products.  It's not your fault, go for it man,

Jim Bounds
