Well, Amazon munged the ZIP on the package so the new speakers aren't here yet.  However, Joel - the Amazon gerbil to whom I spoke - assured me they are now headed in the right direction.  A check of the tracking number seems to confirm this.  So, pictures when they get here.  Keep watching this space.

OK, I have achieved music. And found out the old Kenwood HD adaptor only works with the old iBiquity format (iBiquity is the HD radio provider for broadcasters). Most of the HD stations use the service for multicast, and reduce the bitrate to the extent the analog FM sounds better. Need only to mount the trimplate over the radio, likely with either hot glue or a couple of small sheet metal screws. Mounted the modified 4K tach at the same time, using an existing hole in the backplate. I'll bring my 2 1/16 punch home from work next week and put the vacuum guage in beside the radio.
The SSL speakers sound surprisingly good. Pictures as soon as I figure out the upload process.
I think this winter's project is to be a new dash for the thing. I want a couple of ammeters, nice round guages I can see, and an array of idiot lights. It looks fairly easy to do, there's lotsa room back there.
