I ran my generator 2 hours every 5 hours or to power refrig and freezer and microwave when power was out for a few days. No problem it ran fine. The load is not very high from those items. I made a trip and had to stop and it was hot so I cracked up the generator and turned on both AC UNITS. It ran for about 20 minutes and quit. It was 94 out side and when I used the generator to power the house it was about 80 out side. It seems every time I make a trip and it is hot out side it quits when I need it. I really need to be able to use it when traveling when it is hot since my wife likes to sit at the table while I drive.
What would be a few things I need to check. The oil level checked ok.
I am planning to run it and load it next wk when it is hot outside; I would like to fix it so I can depend on it when I need it if possible.
Last year: Compression checked out. Installed new point and condenser. Changed coil to see if that was the problem. Made sure no air leaks around the filter. It ran fine when I was checking and it was hot outside. It was also pulled out when I worked on it.

Well it takes, spark, fuel, air, and compression to run. You need to determine which one of these is missing when it fails to run. Usually it is spark or fuel. Once you determine that, we can go from there. There several other issues associated with the control circuits (the board) that could be shutting off the spark or the fuel. Once you determine which of the above 4 is missing we can go into the board if necessary.

Art,
The first year we toured the east coast in Double Trouble the Onan ran
perfectly.
The second year it developed a problem just like yours. Tom Hampton
discovered that it was the coil failing when it got hot.
Someone reported they had a fuel pump that seized up when hot and I had a
coil that would fail
The other thing I was wondering how much load are you putting on the Onan?
If you're running both A/C units, the hot water heater, AC powered DC
battery charger / convertor, refrigerator, lights, etc. you could be
overloading the Onan.

I had both AC running (each 13.5 and newer unites), plus refrig and battery charger. Last year with all running plus the hot water heater the I had the current checked and it drew 28 amps.

Mike,
It looks like there's two power supply wires going in and two spark plug
leads coming out so that Toyota coil should work.
The price is right! ;-)

on a lot of cars. (For example, Item number: 280698593027 ) You would only
need one of the 3 or 4 coils. You would have a spare or three... :lol:
In fact, you might be able to find a pack with at least one good coil in the
trash at a local auto repair garage. Note that a lot of these packs include
the "igniter" in the pack.... so they go bad just as often as the coils.
So.. these coils might be easy to find for free.... (I haven't looked.)
