Even if you have all the parts books, that does not mean you can get a serviceable part. ...
...
... If you have to do that, be ready to have a bad time. Many parts out there are inferior quality or just plain wrong. ...

Most current auto parts counter people can not find a part without "knowing" what vehicle it is "for".... This is so they can pick it from a list on the computer... and there isn't any GMC motorhome listed unless it is one of those truck chassis SOB's.
SO....
One of the "tricks" you need to know is what to tell the counter person when they as "what vehicle?" About half of the time, you can tell them "1975 Oldsmobile Toronado" and get the right part... BUT what do you tell them the other half of the time? When do you know when to tell them something different?
Calling one of our vendors* will get you the right part. OR at least they should know enough to ask the right questions to select the correct part if there is a difference on some coaches. All this and normally at the same or better price than your local store. AND I have been finding local stores have to order most items anyway....
That said, I normally shop around on for project parts that are a bit "different" and the more "generic" items. I call Applied GMC (JimK... I am on the west coast, but sometime order from JimB) when I need something more GMC specific.
Note that Applied GMC has been "stocking" a LOT of the more generic RV items. (Just ordered a fresh water pump.)

* Our vendors: Normally referred to as "one of the Jims," there are in fact some GMC vendors with names other than "Jim."
