I found that an engine hoist is the easiest way to lift and move it. Ramps along with a good roller cart could work, but the engine hoist is the way to go IMHO.

Can two reasonably healthy men lift an Onan by hand into the bed of a
pickup truck?

Robin, From the pix, I can see that it is setting on a wheeled cart of some
kind. If you have access to a number of 4 x 4 or larger blocking material,
use the lever and fulcrum method to raise the thing one end at a time and
safely place progressively higher and higher amounts of blocking under the
cart until it is tailgate high. They built the big triangle things in egypt
this way. My first choice would be to use an engine lifting crane(think
rental) and use that, as my mom used to say, poor people have poor ways.

Ok, I've read the manual. Where on the Onan is the place to screw that
eyebolt into?
Harbor Freight sells a charry picker for about $200. Renting one is
going to cost me about half that in fees and hassle, and I'm going to
need one to install the thing more than likely. May as well buy one,
right? Anybody finding themselves using their cherry pickers more than
they thought they would?

Genset Gerry does not reccomend lifting from the eyebolt., but The factory designed it to, and I did just that with a cherry picker. No problems, but was worried!!!

I'm an attorney. If something bad happens, I can get 'em for defective

I bought one at an auction a few years ago. It folds up and lives in the corner of my garage. Only used it a couple of times but when you need to use it it's a godsend. Yes it would be helpful installing the onan. Did you try craiglist for one?
On the other hand 2 guys pushing it into a low pickup on ramps would work or as Jim instructed a little at a time. When I was a lot younger I would have gotten a friend to help lift it in. Me and a 15 year younger guy lifted a 4 kw onan in and out of an SOB 2 years ago twice! (I'm a little past 70)it probably weighed around 250 Lbs. Some times we don't get smarter as we get older.

I'd also recommend getting a cherry picker. I have a Harbor Freight one that has been great to have around when you need it. They do go on sale from time to time, so the cost is not all that great, and they do fold up into a reasonable size.
The eyebolt in the manifold does hold it properly, but I would not want to get underneath it when it's up in the air, it is scary to see that much hanging by that small bolt!

I wish you were closer to me. I have a motorcycle lift that would make it easy once you got the Onan on it. It has a large rubber-covered lifting area & is rated for 1000 lbs. I've had 800 on it & rolled it around on concrete with no problems. It even has eyes to hook straps to in order to tie it down. Maybe you know someone closer who has one.
