I am a total newbie to this but have lots of ambition. I'm trying to
replace the screens on my coach and I have tried to get the screens out in a
few different spots (driver rear all the way back, Larger window just behind
passenger at the dinette). I started pulling and pushing have had no luck.
I don't want to break them especially here in the 95 degree heat in CT.

The coach in question is a 76' Palm Beach front davo bunks, double dinette
and rear facing settee...on 28K original miles.....and it was not in the GMC
registry!

Ohh yeah I made the deal last December. Picked it up about 6 weeks ago and
she was able to make from where I bought it which was 8 hrs away.

I will have a lot more question and just found this awesome resource a few
days ago. Just crazy busy with my job.

Thanks in advance

Congratulations and welcome the the GMCnet.

If your screens are like most I have seen -- hold each side and push up and then swing the bottom towards you to remove. There are spring loaded guides in the top of the frame that keep tension on the screen.

Welcome Eden,

I have several things to pass along and a question.

First is Welcome to the group/cult/asylum.

Another is do not post a clean @ddress or telephone number here as it can be read by those not registered members of the forum and as such it has been mined by spammers from time to time.

And, as I am want to do, I like to greet new owners with a version of a waterman's greeting to a new vessel or owner because GMC's don't seem to be a possession as much as they are a part of the family and life of all involved. So,

May the Good Lord Bless this coach and all those that set forth within her.

Lastly, Where in Connecticut? I spent much of my younger years in Mystic/Stonington.

Matt

G'day,

That's the way I got mine out.

If you break the little plastic spring things on the top of the screens the
only place you can get them is from Cinnabar.

The later coaches have different windows and screens than the
earlier ones. In a '76, you should have a couple of plastic tracks
that the screen rides in. The upper one is really two pieces.
Take a look in the manual for details. You slide the screen
to one side, pull out one side of the upper track, then slide
the screen back to the side you took the track out of and you
can then pull it out. You'll need a little L-shaped stiff wire or something
(like maybe an allen wrench) to slip under the end of the track to pull it down.
If you try to pry it with a screw driver, you'll probably break the plastic.

Eden. Welcome aboard. Phone number looks like Coneticut? I am in Eastern PA but spend a lot of time in Norwalk, Stamford, and Boston for work so I travel CT frequently. It sounds like you made a good find. You should put general location and coach details in your signature. That will help others help you. These coaches are a great hobby.

What Karen said. I just replaced the plastic track in the windows in my '75 and had the screens re-screened at Ace Hardware. For the first time since owning the coach, I have windows that slide easily and nice looking screens. The maintenance manual outlines the procedure. I made a tool to remove the track out of heavy hanger wire (about 10 or 12 gauge) with a 90 degree bend on one end and a loop (for a handle) on the other. The top bend gets inserted above the plastic track and allows you to pull the track out. Once the track is out, slide the screen (or glass, the procedure is the same) back, lift it up, and pull the bottom out. Getting the screens done at Ace Hardware cost only $12.00 each for the large front ones. I haven't done the rear bedroom screens yet. I got the track from another GMCer who had extra after doing hers (thanks Nancy Very Happy ). She got the stuff from Cinnabar. Oh, if you do the glass track, lubricate it with silicone spray.
