Another thing to consider is what happened to me when I owned a 75 Chevy PU with HEI. It was doing the same thing. I thought it may have been vapor lock, but it turned out that the PO had installed a new module in the distributor without putting heat grease under it. Eventually it failed completely.I learned that when replacing the module be sure to spray some carb cleaner on a rag & clean the mounting surfaces thoroughly,including the bottom of the module, then put heat grease on the module & install
