I know some of you have completely removed your old dash and replaced it
with a new unit, I am missing the glove box section, I have the door but no
box if anyone has one I would be interested.

I have a 1973 so I do not know about the the other models, but on mine the
window latch units were missing some or all the small plastic units that
held the screws in were rotted out or gone along with some of the screws. I
have found a simple solution if anyone has this same problem, I purchased
from Lowels home supply and purchased some binder screws, 3/16" long I
drilled the latch handle for the screw and threaded unit 3/16" I installed
the I installed a rubber washer over the shaft and installed it from the out
side of the window, I put new double back adhesive on the back of the handle
and pushed the screw through the holes, I applied a little sealant to the
threads and screwed both ends together.

It looks good and since the binder screws are aluminum, they should last a
long time. The ones I found are open straight through that's why I used the
sealant, there are some the the female part is closed on the outside, this
might look a little better. Some of the larger Office supply store may have
these also.

Hope this helps someone else

The early '73's came with type of one glovebox, that the contents stay in a pocket in the door... like the ones in the '77/78's. I do not know why but they where changed "in the field" (recall??) to the "folded metal insert" type. (Many coaches "lost" the glovebox sticker then.) What type of box are you looking for?

The best replacement window latch screws can be had from JimB at the Coop. (I expect JimK has them also.) Metal with plastic sleeves and they didn't cost much.... If you need something "right away" go to a good hardware store and ask for "sex nuts." (I do not remember the size... it has been a while.) You can get some that are brass and solid on one end. (They look like little brass buttons from the outside.) I think the local Ace charged a bit more than the Coop.

Well since I do not have a box I can't say what type it was, How can I tell?
I know that there is no information on the Coach on the glove box lid. I
can probably build one but I have so many other things to do , I was hoping
just to find one. Is there something I should look for to tell me what type
this 73 GMC had? Who would think they had different glove boxes for the
same year ?

What you call the "sex nuts" sound like the same thing as the as the binder
screws I mentioned except the ones I used were solid aluminum, they also
look like a button from outside. I did not know any of our GMC venders
carried those but I think that the shipping probably would have been more
than the items cost. I guess you could paint them black and they would blend
right in.

Did you say you had a glovebox door? Is it metal? If so I THINK you have "the replacement." (I have only seen one of the orignal types... still I have no idea why they where replaced.)

I am at work so I can only look thru the picture site.

It was this coach that had the orignal (small pic but the glovebox is open): <http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=27666>

The replacement, in my '73 coach when I bought it: <http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=5696>
Note the lack of glovebox sticker.

Anyway the inside part is folded flat metal with a lip seperating upper and lower parts. It also has a small removable section over the fuse box. I just lift the whole thing out to access the fuses. I even added a additional "house" fuse panel under there. (My '78's glove box is totally different... the '77 doesn't have the stock dash.)

Serge,

Did you ever find a glove box? I finally found the one from my '76.
I have no idea whether it will fit your coach. Not a whole lot to it:
The door, with piano hinge to a lower section which continues the
curve of the door. The "box" is mostly a peripheral frame with a
horizontal shelf across the middle -- no back. I don't know whether I
removed the back for some other project, or it never had one.

The latch is reserved for Tom Phipps but I'll ship the rest of it to
you for cost if it's what you need.

The back is the "folded metal insert" I talked about earlier. I just looked at my '73 and it sounds like what you have will work for Serge... the insert shouldn't be that hard to make.

I could take pictures and measurements if needed... but almost and pre-1977 coach should have one you could look at.

Thanks to all that responded to the glove box question, Gerald Wheeler is
sending me one that should work for my GMC.

Thanks again
