As we know, the white Thetford sewer parts used on the GMC (and Airstream, BTW) are less common, and a lot harder to find, as well as being more expensive that the current industry choice, Valterra type fittings.

I was in a very good RV parts place in Missoula MT yesterday where they have all kinds of Thetford fittings, caps, and hose adaptors, as well as Thetford dump valves and even repair parts for them. But the one I found that I wanted to tell you about was a Valterra "Universal Adapter" which allows one to put a Valterra hose end fitting on to a Thetford outlet. The only part number I can find on the package is T05-2285VP. It makes the outlet about 1.5 inches longer, but with it you can use any standard Valterra stuff from then on. Since it is a Valterra part, it was not expensive, about $8.

With one of these, you can get most of the rest of the stuff you need at Wally World, or other RV dealers, and it will fit the older Thetford outlets.

In talking to the parts guy at this store (who has been there forever) most all Thetford stuff is readily available, if the store you go to will bother to look it up and order it for you. But often all they say is it is "no longer available". There is a larger RV dealer in Missoula, and they often send their own repair people down to this place to get their parts for customer repairs. However, when a customer wants an over the counter part at their own parts store, they often say it is discontinued or unavailable, when it is a shelf item at the smaller dealership I was at.

Jim, excellent. When it comes up again I will remember to refer to you. You are amazing in what you stock. But then I have been impressed with you and your service to the GMC community since I met you at Rapid City rally. And damn, I didn't win the exhaust system you donated that year.

I used one of these adaptors to fix my leaking bayonet last week. Since I dry dock if I gotta unload cargo, I basically have a big grey water tank. My thetford gate valve was leaking and I really didn't feel like changing it out before my trip last week and I found this and a valterra to be a cheap and effective fix. Only thing was my bayo was damaged a little on the end producing a slow drip leak. A little silicone adhesive calk around the adaptor ring sealed that up nice. I will fix the stock blade valve at some point but now I'm not in a hurry... Anyone replacing their sewer systems though would probably be best served going to Valterra format for ease of parts replacement...
