[GMCnet] Engine Cover [message #128323]

I just realized the front of my engine cover is not held down by anything. There are two large bolts in the front that are not attached to anything. I guess the bolts used to have something to do with the hold down. I was thinking of purchasing a piece of 1/16 sheet metal that goes under the engine cover and extends up under the floor to hold the cover down in the front and held in place with the two large bolts. Is this the way it is supposed to be done.

I am planning to make a new engine cover next year.

I realized the problem when I replaced the seal on the cover.

Sounds like you need to turn your hatch cover 180 degrees. Those bolts screw
into the metal frame near the back of the opening, not the front.

the edge of the engine opening directly under the dash should have a channel for your cover to slide into to hold the front down, then the bolts screw into the frame at the top of the step.

The screws are in the cover in the back and tightened. I looked thru the manual and it looks like the cover is supposed to slip into the front and the back is held with screws tighten. Mine does not slide far enough forward to be held in place. I can pick the front up when in place with the screws left loose in the back but started.

If you can pick it up, so can the wind. Nothing scarier than to be cruising down the road about 75 mph and have the front of that thing lift up. My 74, I had to put a channel on so it would slip under it when we built the glas cover. The old one had screws up front too.

We play with these units every day and have more answers as were tied
