G'day,

I got a coupon from Harbor Freight today for their model 67501 air
compressor for $109.00. I did some checking and noted that it is a 110 vac
model that puts out 4.5 CFM at 90 psi.

Query: If you were to run two of them plumbed in parallel would you wind up
with 9 CFM?

If you did it would be a bargain @ $218.00!

Regards,
Rob M.

How about getting 3 of them for 13.5 CFM?
Or 4 for 18 CFM?

If you adjusted the pressure switches right you could get them to turn on in a delayed sequence to reduce start up load.

I wonder is HF makes a stacking stand so you could just mount them all vertically on top of each other.

Sorry, I just couldn't resist.

I mounted the Harbor Freight number 66399 where my old dana was in the cabinet with the air valves. It is only 1.35 cfm but will raise the coach to ride hight from 0 psi in a couple min. it is 12v and only 59.99. I do keep a small backup in case that one bites the dust. No problem in the couple months since i put it in.

Mark,

Normally I am a proponent of Harbor Freight tools; however, in this case I
am a bit leery. I just read the reviews and agree with the ones that note it
gets hot fast.

"We" discussed this pump awhile back and IIRC the general consensus was that
"we" needed to install one and monitor its performance. Looks like you're
elected!

I do carry one of these in Double Trouble to inflate the tires and in case
the Viair 480C dies.

I would not shop there.
We get plenty parts from RED China without any choice.
Were having troubles with brake parts from them.
My suggestion to the Red Chinese: "Stick to COOKING"

I truly understand the sentiment, but I do have a bit of a different view. If you have good performance specs and you hold the supplier accountable, my experience has been that China or India or any off shore supplier will give you good parts. We have become lazy with regard to specifying what we want. The American supply chain more or less has spoiled us in that they know what we expect. This is not true of many oversees suppliers, but frankly that is more "our" fault than the supplier. GM builds upscale Cadillac STS stretched cars in China and Russia that far eclipse the quality of units built locally--it's all about specifications.

Bob,

This echoes what I was saying about the Xian Aircraft Factory.

Another anecdote from my Hong Kong days; British Aerospace had a contract
with the Harbin Aircraft Factory to make doors for the BAE 146. The contract
called for 20 ship sets of doors (a ship set is the quantity required for
one aircraft).

When the doors were done BA inspected them and found a number of the doors
did not meet the specs and refused to pay them.

The HAF said well just pay us for the ones that meet the spec. BA again told
them NO! The contract was for 20 ship sets and since it's kinda hard to
deliver aircraft without doors you will have to deliver 20 ship sets that
meet the spec.

There was much weeping and gnashing of teeth on the Chinese side but they
did manage to build 20 ship sets that all met the specs!

I think you would be hard pressed to find a Red Chinese (Communist)
now-a-days; they're all Socialist Market Economists! A clever term as the
government that had been condemning Capitalism since 1949 could hardly call
their "new" system that; it would be a MASSIVE loss of face!

Rob M.

If I were to need a continuious duty compressor I would spend the extra bucks for the Vlair unit. My air system is now pretty tight. On the trip last weekend 90 miles each way the compressor only come on once for about 30 seconds. Probably due to a consistant cross wind from the south as I was going east. I run with the system in the auto position to let the leveling valves do their job. Yes the compressor does get quite warm after about 2 min run time. At the camp site I ran it about 3 min to level the coach but I opened the door to the cabinet where it is located while doing so. With the backup to get me home in case of a failure I am sastified with the system. I looked for a reasonable priced US made compressor but could not find anything I was willing to pony up for. Most like the Vlair were more or less continuious duty and I felt were overkill. Of course this one is only 2 months old so time will tell. I may have to eat my words so to speak but if I do I will be sure to let everyone know.

One thing I kind of like about them.  After they provided some adulterated ingredients for pet foods and got caught at it, several of the perpetrators went up against the wall.  Puts teeth in the rules.
