My PO converted to used 16" steel wheels. I don't actually know if he got the right ones or not, but they seem to mount and roll OK. Do I need to worry about weight rating or other specs?
He tried to bang the 16.5" hub caps back on, but they didn't seem solid so I removed them to prevent loss in transit.
Is there a way to make 16.5" hub caps work on 16" wheels? Seems like if you bent or removed some of the pressure fingers, you'd sacrifice holding power and just lose them all...quickly or slowly.
Someone mentioned drilling a retaining hole and tethering to the wheel, but I'm not sure that's practical either (he suggested it for correctly-sized hub caps, which still get lost sometimes, I think).
I wouldn't spend $75 x 7 for new 16"ers, but this site seems like they might have them or be able to get them (#GMC990):
http://www.hubcaps.org/allgmc.html
They also list the 16.5"s.. (#GMC984)
If I can't mount the 16.5" hub caps on the 16" wheels, then I'll probably just paint the wheels for now. So I'd have 7 "good, used" condition 16.5" hub caps...anyone looking?
