I am a Life Member of ASHRAE (American Society for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers) and as such get their monthly Journal. This month there was a short article copied from "Supermarket News" which may be of interest to this group. I quote it verbatim.

" Fresh and Easy Neighborhood Market is planning a test of self contained coffin freezer cases using propane gas in a store expected to open in June.

Coffin freezers are plug in cases that are separated from main refrigeration systems. Most of Fresh and Easy's 160 stores have five coffin cases.

The company says the reasons for the test are that propane is more efficient than R404a and has a global warming potential of 3 compared to 3500 GWP of R 404a. In addition, propane costs $2 a pound while R404a costs $10, and 4.5 oz of propane can replace 9 oz of R404a.

Last May, EPA proposed a rule to make propane acceptable and a final rule, expected later this year, could increase the use of hydrocarbon appliances in the U.S."

Could some sanity be restored to this issue? Of course, it might just make it so it can be regulated further, and make do it yourself uses like ours illegal.

I hope not and also hope that does not sound to negative. R12a may have life yet.

I will report on anything I see as it comes up.

How, pray tell, is a few ounces of propane in an
air conditioning system more likely to go KA-BOOM
than the huge quantities in the propane tank with
all the attendant lines and fittings subject to
leakage?

Haha!

I just put 19 gallons of propane in my coach.
plus 16 ounces for the AC
right besides 50 gallons of gasoline.

The 16 ounces seems pretty minor for some reason

If I go up, you'll see me on the news!

I guess the gasoline in the carbeurator right nest to the air compressor
isn't dangerous.

Just returned from a trip to okeechobee, fl......seen maybe a dozen scorched
areas along the highway......cars burning because of gasoline leaks, so a
aircompressor goes kaboom....that's the end of it, not the enite vehicle
like a gas fire

Dido!
Check the burnt asphalt coming up the grade on I-8 from El Centro.
We have counted two or three fresh burnt spots each trip west bound.
Don't you just love the "New Gas" eats the rubber lines.
Speaking of that started up the GMC yesterday and guess what?
Gas smell!
Time to replace the fuel lines only three years old.
This time I'm replace them with USCG approver lines.
Hope that works better.

You think it is good now?

Just wait until they force the 15% fuel on us.

That will even take out a bunch of the new cars with 40~50 psi fuel rails. You think 18 can dump fuel fast? Double that. . .

Be catreful - I'm told the word in the Koran is 'grape' which is an euphemism for  'virgin.'  And when Osama hit the Pearly Gates for his reward, Mohammad handed him a bunch of green seedless, and told him 'There ya are!'.

What use would most of us have for a harem?

I'm reminded of the old song "Smoke, Smoke,
Smoke That Cigarette" which has as a part of
its lyrics a line that says something about
sending in a million filter packs and win a
Beauty Queen. Singer sent them in but no
longer had a need any more 'cause he had
smoked himself to death!

I'm only 73. I hardly ever take a nap!
Hated 'em when I was a wee lad, too.

With propane, all you need is a cigarette lighter to find leaks in your AC lines Smile

If I use ZDDP in a new car - will the tappets go flat?
