air filter don't improve the mileage, a build is in order. I've been 'little ol' ladying' the thing, finally today got the back barrels on the carb open for a bit.  Performance ain't bad at all.
Sitting on the intake I found a tube about eight inches long, and a roll pin maybe a half inch long.  No idea what's afloat in there.  Did GM put the cruise chain from the vacuum servo to the carb linkage in a tube maybe?
Air cleaner wingnut has been replaced with a hex nut, that will be corrected before anyone else is allowed to tinker.  (Ask the QuadraJet gurus about overtightening the cleaner hold down nut.  Does Bad Things to the carb)
AC electrics seem to work OK..  DC coach electrics don't.  However, this is my field of expertise, I can make them all go without a lot of heartburn... takes time, a meter, and a Fox N  Hound, all of which I got.Since the radio comes on but makes no sound, like the CB set, dash removal is in the near future.  I have a spiffy unused Kenwood HD-FM-AM-CD=MP3-etc. which will replace the Hashimoto Mouse radio currently in it.  There's a TV antenna on the roof and a set of photocells, some chaisng is in order.  Cheep flatscreen fromTiger Direct and we're fat city nights.
After the electrics comes plumbing.  Furnace can wait till fall if necessary, but it isn't rusted and looks like it will work on demand.

Johnny,
They are not SS headers, just coated nickle.
The tube that was laying on the intake is the heat tube that cones off
the left exhaust shield to the bottom of the air filter housing. Since
the header was installed, you will want to install a flex tube in its
place and attach a device o the tube on the header
If its missing, I'll send you one n/c.
The chain runs through the tube so it will not tango up .

It's got a flex tubeand a bit of a baffle on the driver's side header, and the vacuum motor weorks - now - with uncracked hose.  Thanks for the offer, though.  The little straight tube looks to be the one the crusie control is threaded through.
 
I note there are different carbs and distributiors (This has HEI) fitted for CA or 49 federal.  This coach looks to have started off in CA... at any rate it's got temp controlled distributor vacuum and a couple of other things which use temp controlled vacuum.  Were there any other changes to CA vs 49?  I figure there might be a marginal mileage increase using 49 federal tuning.

Johnny, tell us again what year coach you have, and I will give you the
correct carb number and distributor number, and vacuum advance canister
number. If it is a california coach, there are changes in the EEC also. If
that tube that you found on the intake manifold is about the diameter of a
straw, it goes over the cruise control chain to keep it from hanging up and
holding your throttle open. Exciting deal when it happens.

It's a '76 Transmode, with a Norris Homes Inc. interior according to the sticker on the side.

On the vacuum for the doors, There should be a softball sized black vacuum reserve tank mounted to the driver's side of the heater box. Make sure it still has the heater control hoses run through it.
