Is there a source for the points and condenser for our Onan Gens? My Onan has 500hrs on the clock and I don't think they have ever been replaced.

Cummins-Onan South on Blalock Drive in Atlanta, but last time I googled Onan parts - some years back - there were a couple of dealers who discount.  C-O S gets list for them.

Many have replaced the points with a Pertronix (often misplet Petronix) magnetic trigger. There are several pictures and how tos at gmcmhphotos.com . Then you are set for life.
"so what's the point?"

That is what I did! It runs way better than it ever did with points. I was also able to safely advance timing to 27* btdc which makes it more efficient. Way better imho! with the pertronix you set it, then forget it. I used one for a 4cyl engine but lost 3 of the magnets so get the V8 unit to have pleanty to spare....

Thanks guys for the input! I took a look at the Pertronix on the GMC motorhome info page and I really like that set up. Looks easy to do. I priced the unit at Summit for $82.95. Will be my next project.

Jon,

I think Jim K is competitively priced on that. I may be wrong.

Seems you missed my last post on this subject. (The thread got broken.)

<http://gmc.mybirdfeeder.net/GMCforum/index.php?t=tree&goto=127306&rid=153#msg_127306>

The "lowest price" has gone up in the last year. Was $61 now $69.

Good choice on your projected upgrade.
