Been waiting for Tom Phipps to get home and hoping he would put something
together; I would come help and might drive a segment to get it to Marsha.

This is what I received from Tom on Friday.
> I'm in Texas, will not be home until Memorial Day. Then, leaving home for another week, with GMC. Then be home. Maybe someone will step up and do the leadership thing. I'll drive down to help as in the past.<
I don't know what I can do to help. I can tell you what little I know from the questions that have been brought up.
I had purchased an exhaust system from Lee Harrison (I think), but I returned it not knowing what was to become of the coach. If it needs to be repurchased (if it's still available), that is possible. But please understand my funds are not unlimited, but I will do whatever I can.
Fuel lines were cut or missing. We got it started, briefly, on starter fluid, but that was it. as Tom mentioned, it has a marine fuel pump installed, no idea why.
If I missed any other questions, let me know and i will do my best to answer.

A "marine" fuel pump is "ignition protected" meaning that
there is no chance of any sparks igniting fuel, that's all.

As a reply, Tom Phipps is out of the leadership business. I'm very willing to help. I can (again) bring a complete exhaust system from Leigh's, he is located very close to me. The payment could come out of the accumulated funds.
A team is needed to work the brakes, I believe that rust may have overtaken the system. A team is needed to work the gas delivery system, i.e., drop the tanks, check for rust, clean as much as possible, and run new gas lines. The marine electric fuel pump could be rigged to move the fuel. Or, it could be driven on the "fuel pump from small portable gas tank" method.
Sounds like two 2 person teams for repairs, and 1 person as a parts runner.

Disappointed that this project has lost momentum.
I had offered to drive up to NC and help, but I won't be able to do so for much longer -- we'll soon be packed and in-transit for moving (back) to the west coast.
Dave, I hope our enthusiasm didn't put you in a bad position as the foster home for wayward coaches.
If this project doesn't go forward, I request that my $100 contribution to the effort be shared among the folks who seek donations to keep their parts of the GMC internet community humming along.

Are we giving up?
What needs to happen. Storage for the summer is not a problem. After September the leaves fall off (exposing my RV junkyard to the neighbors) and the ground gets mushy (making it hard to clear the RV junkyard.
I'm only a couple hours from the Outerbanks. Surely this could line up with a fun trip for someone?
What's the cheapest option for exhaust?
I promised my wife that our contribution to this project would not involve a lot of my time and I don't feel competent to do much on someone elses coach (read my posts of the last two years)
But i could probably find time to connect a fuel line from a can and fire it up.
From there we could have some assesment of the brakes and trans.
But we need at least enough pipe to get the heat and fumes out from under the coach, right?

Not that it matters,,,,but I thought a "marine" mech. fuel pump had provision in the form of a tube or hose to rought fuel to the carb if the diaphram ruptured. Not filling the crankcase and then the bilges and then BANG?????,,,,PL

Have you, or anyone, heard anything from Marsha? If she's not
sufficiently interested in the project to be leading the effort, it's
time to refund the contributions or forward them to Billy Massey or
Patrick Flowers or ??? to support their efforts which benefit all of
us.

Ken,
I vaguely remember reading an email noting that Marsha's hubby told her to
get rid of it! I wonder if that has anything to do with her lack of interest
as noted from her disappearance from the GMCnet.

I don't remember that, but I would like some reassurance that my

I am still here. I backed off a little at least in part due to a few off list comments that bothered me a bit.
There is nothing more that I would like than to get the couch home. My problems are not having the money, skills or time to do the necessary repairs that would have to be done to get it home. I am not given to asking for help. I was over whelmed but the offer of help. I also understand everyone has there own problems and projects that need to be addressed. I also know that none of you know me so even the offer of help was something unexpected but also much appreciated. If I could get there and work on it myself, I probably would feel a little more comfortable, but as it is I have to totally rely on the kindness of strangers, something that is difficult for me to do.
Just as an FYI, my husband never said a negative word about the coach. I could have 200 of them sitting in the yard and he wouldn't care. My project is just just that, my project.
I had hoped I could drive it home and work on it here, within my time frame, but at the time it looked like it was going to take more time than I had allowed. There was also the issue with some of the things it needed being outside my skill set. I have to work occasionally, and when I do I work long hours and many shifts back to back (in fact just got off a 16 hour shift).
Sorry if my thoughts are not flowing very clearly, but I wanted to post before I went to bed. I'm here and I have not given up on my dream of having my very own GMC motorhome, it just has been tempered by a little reality.

Ignore the off-net comments. There are always a few bad apples out there. If the comments were worthy they would post them here. The comments being not worthy, these people are afraid to post them here because we will be all over them. I would offer to help in the project if it was a little closer tome. Take the offers of help. You can make up for the help in later years by helping someone else.

Ken B said "Take the offers of help. You can make up for the help in later years by helping someone else."
Amen!
Marsha,
My small contribution was made with my eyes wide open, and I got such pleasure out of helping a little from here in California. I wish I could donate much, much more, but you know how that goes!
Paying it forward? Not for me. I know what joy my daughter, wife, and I have had in this relic machine. It's contagious. My friends and family have enjoyed it too. Neighbors and strangers alike smile at me as I pass. I have met some very happy people on Treasure Island who were all there because of their 20-something foot long hot rod with plumbing. This world of ours needs more joy. You, your husband, family and friends will be blessed when your GMC Motorhome gets on the road so that you can go, sleep, eat and live where you can't otherwise go, sleep, eat, and live.
Have you ever had fun in the parking lot of a WalMart? I have.
An SOB could do it too, but I'd miss these blessed goofballs, blowhards, genius's, smart a$$'s, and even an Ornamental and a Revconeer! I'll admit I was drawn to this list by a tale told by a cardboard Commodore, and a fellow with a shadow, but stayed for all these other characters. I said it's contagious and I'm infected. I hope it lasts a long, long time!
Let's not let our good start come to no end. Somehow we'll get y'all in that coach. This world needs more joy, and that's what I was buying!
