Good Morning

Well after 7 weeks we were able to run down to Topeka Graphics to pick up our
newly painted coach on Saturday.

Larry and Karen at Topeka did their normal spectacular job on this project, Lisa
and I could not be more pleased.

It was also great that John & Pat Shotwell came to meet us and to help us
celebrate. After we left Topeka we went in to Shipshawanee and had a nice lunch
and conversation together.

It was a GREAT DAY that Lisa and I waited a long time for.

Our thanks to Byron Songer for the great design and to Larry & Karen Bontrager
for their super good work.

Here are the pictures of the process.

What a couple of beauties!

I love your paint scheme. The attention to detail with the sweep of paint from front to rear is a thing of beauty.

Congratulations.

Ray, why not consider coming to Madison with us for the FMCA gathering in August. Hoping to have several GMC coaches there.
Also, you met one great couple when the Shotwells came over. I give John a hard time but he is a super guy.

Wow, that looks great!

I've read somewhere to expect to pay $4-6k for a proper job on these beasts.

Presumably it depends somewhat on the number of colors, design complexity, etc. And maybe it's possible to do some of the prep work (mirror, bumper, grille removal?) to save the pros some time..

Is that about right? Not to be nosy, my "pretty on the inside" coach will probably have to stay that way for a while, but the paint job is certainly the most visible issue. Smile

How long does it take them to do all the work and curing and such?

The more I look at this the more amazed I am. Look at the beautiful rendering by Byron Songer - a great concept. Then look at the finished paint job. Holly Cat's Topeka nailed it! The finished product looks so much like Byron's rendering that it's almost as if his drawings came after the paint job!

Oh, boy, what a beautiful job. Now I have to save my pennies (quarters?) to get my Palm Beast beautified.

I wonder if there are any shops in California that pay attention to detail like that.

Lisa and Ray - Congratulations on that pretty coach!

For sure, the design and illustration preceded the paint job. For instance,
my drawing shows to A/C units instead of one, newer unit with a FanTastic in
the rear position. Maybe I should do an 'as painted' illustration?

To find a good paint shop that pays attention to detail is easy. Look at
other paint jobs. Then feel the other paint jobs. If you rub you fingers
over the stripes of a coach by Topeka Graphics you'll feel no stripe. They
finish things off well. If you really want to get picky just look in the
door jamb. Earl Scheib never painted there.

Funny you mention Earl Sheib.........back in 1974 a friend had a Buick LaSabre
and he asked me to spray it, naturally I was young and dumb so I said sure. He
sanded it and brought it over to my apartment and we masked it after work out in
the parking lot one night. He had purchased Sherwin Willians Enamel. We
spayed it (outside) and it looked incredible.....then the weather suddenly
changed and the humidity rolled in......the entire paint job SAGGED.....it had
run "stalagtites" that literally hung from the rocker panels and touched the
ground.......it was a TOTAL DISASTER !

From that day on, my nickname at work was Earl Sheib Jr. !

That was the last car I ever painted.

Ray,
has it been that long already?
Seems like yesterday you had just taken your GMC MH to the paint shop.

Sure did brighten up her face, didn't it?

It is really a nice look for her.

So tell us, did you go down and peek a few times to see how she was coming along??

Boy the campsite won't be very dark anymore, your GMC will be radiating from that beautiful paint scheme and those colors.

Very nice Ray. Now, don't you miss that Blue and Mahogany scheme you used to have???
