The wrecker wanted over 1000 big ones to tow it home! I opted instead to tow it myself with my GMC Yukon and a tow strap. Now I am thinking that it was probably not good for the transmission. Any thoughts? I went slow 25 mph max.

Actually you only need to disconnect one CV joint to take the transmission out of the picture. Make sure that the final drive is topped off before starting the tow.

I sure wouldn't want to tow very far that way. What you're depending on is
that the differential will spin the disconnected axle side hub through the
"spider gears". Unfortunately, those gears and their bearings are designed
only for the speed differential between the left and right wheels as they
negotiate a turn. NOT for the continuous speed to which they'll be
subjected = (FD Ratio) X (Connected Wheel RPM) X 2. (I'm a little shaky on
that X 2 -- A more recent ME than myself might remember.)
I'd definitely disconnect both axles.

I hope I didn't screw it up any worse than it already is!
