When I got mine it had been sitting a long time with the black tank incompletely emptied. I bought a box of Rid-Ex & put 2 cups in a gallon of warm water for an hour, then poured it in the black tank & filled it with warm water. I let it set a few weeks( it wasn't running) & then dumped the tank. The bacteria does a good job of digesting organic matter. I was a wastewater treatment plant operator before I got hurt, so I was familiar with use of bacteria use. This only works in the summer unless the coach is in an enclosed, heated area since the bacteria needs warm temps to be viable.
