It seems we're backing up in the poo tank. I have a macerator pump that works emptying at least the liquid, but the solid waste seems to be building up. Is this a common problem? My plan is to run a 'disposable' hose into the toilet while at the dump station. Hopefully, with frequent "fill and flush" cycles I can clear it out. Any other ideas?

They make a "flushing wand" device that attaches to a garden hose and will allow you to flush your toilet out without tossing the hose. See your RV dealer, they are a common item stocked at most places.

When you use the rig, use enough water with each flush involving solids. That way there will be enough water in the tank so the problem is minimized (not necessarily eliminated, but fewer issues) There is a tendency to use too little water and then the solids build up and are hard to break loose. Of course, don't leave the drain valve open when parked camping, otherwise only the liquid will drain off, leaving the solids hi and dry to build up.

Throw a bag of ice cubes and take the coach for a ride. Should know everything inside black tank loose, and provide liquid for the draining of said black tank.
Or, Rick Denney's method, "No solids in the inside toilet." Smile

the real answer is to use a lot of water to flush
and
only dump when you arrive---- that way the sloshing around keeps the tank
clean....

I believe Emery came up with this idea a while back. Next time you are on a
trip dump a couple of bags of ice into the toilet. The chunks of ice will
knock the lumps away as you are driving. Make sure the ice totally enters
the holding tank. The first time we did this the slider on the toilet was
held open by the ice. Bad Idea!!!!!!!!. The ice chunks slosh back and forth
and remove the lumps.

Apologies to Emery if this was not his idea!!

Thanks

If you have frequent access to dumping, put a few gallons of water into the tank after emptying. It will help keep the "pyramid" from building directly below the toilet.

Several years ago at a Cacaders rally, one member had a problem with the
"pyramid" build up blocking the toilet. While several other members were
tossing out ideas how to unblock it , one enterprising female member came
running over waving a bag of prunes.

The place I normally dump has a church across the street. The parking lot rarely has anyone parking there. I do figure 8's before pulling into the dump station. Just stirring up crap.

Basicly: Keep "it" from drying out and sticking to the tank. Empty the tank before it has a chance to dry out. During the season, leave some water standing in an otherwise empty tank.

The "ice trick" will help getting you to a "clean tank." Here is a site that has some good reading: <http://www.phrannie.org/phredex.html>
