Is it bad to be lug centric on these vehicles? The wheels were
designed to be hub centric. Googling says it's not that big a deal.

They are 5 Slot Mags. Popular on 70's muscle cars. I hated them growing up, but since I have seen them on that coach, I kinda like them. All you need are bell bottoms and some beads hanging in the doorway, and you're all set.
I think Cragar made them, bit I'm sure American Racing and others knocked them off too.
They sure are period correct.

My personal experience wit a non hub centered wheel in the 80's were
not that good.
The holes that the nuts spin in starts to enlarge each the wheels are
taken on and off.
There are ways to do it carefully, but tire shops and repair shops do
not have time to baby them and the wheels are allowed to tilt as the
nuts are spun.
It is almost impossible to wear out the hub center, but you can the log center .
If you think you can remove the wheels like it should carefully each
time, then go for the less expensive units.

While I have seen pictures of this coach before, (looks to be a rear bath Birch to me.) I never noticed the body treatment around the front wheel.
Something just doesn't look normal there....

+1 on the Ansen Sprint Mags.
Wonder how long the wheel bearings lasted on that coach with wheels of that offset?
Looks hairy though!
