I guess that might work but 40+ years is an awful long life for a windshield at least in the northwest. I bought my wife a new Suburban at the end of 08 and had it cracked inside of 115 miles driving to Sun Peaks in Canada. The crating and freight is what drives the cost way up. I may just plan a future trip to where the glass lives when I get tired of the fog.
Got plenty of more pressing concerns anyway

And somebody brought up the idea of sealing the edge with silicone RTV and
letting it cure fully before installing the windscreens.

My glass guy tells me its from moisture penetrating through the edge of the
glass.
