Went to an interesting web site today. "poifriend.com" has a great deal of POI's to load in your GPS. Many of these POI's can aid you in your travels.
I downloaded several, and need to explore the site further.

That has a lot of interesting information, put in its one at a time format without any associated geography, it could be hard to use for planing. It does seem to have a lot of POI not listed in most other places.

If you want POI files for you laptop navigator, the good one to have a book mark on is the Discover Owner site <http://www.discoveryowners.com/cginfo.htm> is great if you are navigating by SA, S&T, Co-pilot, Google Earth or just want a *.txt of POI on a whole bunch of categories.

The AAA planning site is pretty good too, but it just throws all the POI at you (without an easy means to upload to anything).

What I really want is something that I can load the planned route and it will alert me to things that I should consider diverting to get to. All to often, we have been informed of something that we would have enjoyed, but did not know how close we would be.

That is a great goal, I too hope someone knows of a useful tool.

I've long been thinking of creating a dynamic "Traveller's Itinerary" (with
many unique possibilities/applications) that would be accessible by
internet, and now of course, cell phone, Ipod, and GPS would be just as
important. The logistics and tech and cash requirements would be the
obstacles I can see. I need another 'Round Tuit'. Anyone got one to spare?

Take Care & Enjoy,
Carl H.
