That is so cool! I have a lame question though: why does the kit
include just a huge spacer? I understand the appeal of having
the front track the same as the rear, but I'm guessing there were
other reasons. Was it to get the wheel to clear the caliper??
This kit solves a lot of problems all at once.

I thought that myself. In the original application there is a spacer as well, not sure if it is the same size.

I have Eagle wheels and checked for clearance and there is lots of clearance for my wheels. By my eyeball the fronts now line up with the rears. I may have to add mudflaps though.

The spacer is part of the original Chevy One Ton front suspension.

From Stan Edwards' presentation at Patterson, I understand that the OEM
spacers actually make the front tread wider than the rear, and that JimK
offers a slightly thinner set which makes the treads equal.
