It certainly looks like one (the three bolt torque converter). It would be a nice find if it is.
Don't know what it would be worth, but I thought a rebuilt Manny tranny was about $700 (if my memory serves) plus your core transmission???????????

Yeah, the "GM" tag would mean a motorhome tranny. I wouldn't think it would be wise using it without cracking it and at least inspecting the innards. The surface rust may indicate rust internally if it got wet.

Coincidentally, I am in a similar situation. The previous owner of my coach has a NOS GMC transmission leftover from the original owner who bought it as a spare.
I still haven't picked it up yet, as I would need to rent a truck and find someone to assist lifting it. And, I'm wondering how worthwhile it would be, given the perceived value of the transmission. Also, what is the consensus on its viability after sitting in storage for 30 years? I'm wondering if the valve body might need some work, or ???
The original 37,000 mile transmission in the Kingsley is starting to get balky when cold ( perfect when warm ), so if this NOS unit might be viable, I want to have it in stock.

IMHO, a NOS transmission is definitely worth several hundred dollars if not
damaged or waterlogged. Even if one subscribes to the controversial idea
that the seals have deteriorated from age, all of the hard parts should be
unaffected. A kit of all the soft parts shouldn't cost much over $50.
Installation of those would yield a transmission un-equalled in quality by
any overhaul short of Manny's complete re-manufacturing.

The owner wants $500 for it. Too rich for me to just put on the shelf. He is planning to put it on e-Bay. If anybody here wants it contact me direct and I'll give you his contact information.

The only potential issue I could think of is the risk of it being equipped with one of the defective transfer case chains I heard about that were not properly "pre-stretched", which contributed to a rash of repeated failures, being the primary single point of potential failure. I learned about this from a former owner of a stretch coach whose misery went through two broken chains from three different transmissions. I hope I got that info right. Unfortunately, he did not offer particulars.
Does anyone have any hard facts on this?
In addition, for the 32' stretch, I paid $1,850 for a reinforced "Manny Tranny" from JB (parts only, including new convertor). He installs his self-developed billet steel input/output bearing supports that make the original design look like product liability-grade engineering. The cost of a good transmission baseline to work from is cheap; the complete nature of an unused original transmission make the value very high in my humble opinion. Did you offer the owner $275? Explaining that the unit must be rebuilt just to replace the expendable parts might help - even the speedo & governor gears.
