Got home late yesterday afternoon. It was a 6-7 hour trip rather than the 5 shown on the GPS. I had it set on Truck application and yes the five hours doesn't take in or consider fuel, meals and bladder stops.
Along I-81 around exit 29 in Virginia there was 3 miles of the worst devastation I have seen outside of a war zone.
ANNIE ran great and will only have to check out why the generator light comes on. I'm thinking one of two things: Isolator or Alternator. If the alternator, I'll replace the 80 amp with a 100 amp.
Bean Station was ..... Bean Station. The best rally that I know of bar none. I had a wonderful time with wonderful GMC DIXIELANDERS.

I got home Monday night. I left Sunday but did not get too far (3 or 4 miles). I came upon a GMCer at the side of the road. I'll let him post if he wants people to know who he is. He had symptoms of running low on fuel while climbing the hill up towards the scenic overlook. We got him 11 gallons of fuel in cans and put it in the tank. No Good...Same problem. So I ended up towing him up the hill a bit to a turn around spot (center concrete median) and then back to the to Bean Station rally site. The owner and JR worked on it for a while and decided that it had a bad fuel pump.
I got on the phone and called several places in Morristown. They looked in their computer and said none was available there or in Knoxville. The one place I did not check was NAPA because the store did not answer the phone.
While we were discussing what to do Al got on the phone to the NAPA warehouse in Knoxville. They said they had one so off we went to Knoxville 52 miles away. When we got there we found that the listed pump was the wrong one. The counter guy worked for about 10 minutes and came up with the correct new pump. I have the printout from NAPA of what vehicles it fits. 73 to 78 455 and 403 in any vehicle are NOT in the list. It turns out if you ask for a 70-72 Toronado with a 455 you will get the correct pump for both the 455 or 403 GMC motorhome. Later when I get ambitious I will type up the entire list of what it fits and post it here.
The owner installed the new pump and every thing was fine. I stayed over night and we left again this morning. Since we were going the same way, I followed the GMC for 150 miles until he went one way and I went a different way.
So after that I took my time and took some of the back roads in Kentucky to get home. I ran along the Ohio river for about 20 miles. 12 hours and 500 miles later I am home. We had a very good rally.
I did get 2 phone calls from GMCers watching me on the Internet. They were asking me where I was going once I got off of the main roads. I checked out some of the flooding along the Ohio river both on the Kentucky and Indiana sides. I came home through Madison,Indiana on US 421 and through Kentucky on several state highways. There was lots of flooding but the river was down a lot from it's crest but it is still very high. All of that water went toward Dan's house.
I talked to Dan on the phone today and he said that the Vibe got the worst of the hail damage. His coach did not fare bad. Also me mentioned that he has those solar collectors on the top of the coach and they did not get broken. His house is on high ground but getting out of town is still impossible.

Suppposedly, the NAPA number for the correct pump is 6108.
It has been said that you have to specify the NON-A/C Toronado
to get the correct pump. Otherwise, you get the NAPA 6109,
which is what my coach came with and I haven't replaced yet.
The 6108 has ONE fuel outlet and the 6109 has TWO! To use the
6109, one outlet must be blocked off (info from others, not I).

This is true. I fought this a few years ago when replacing my mechanical pump. The 6109 has two outlets and you can block one off and it will work, but it just creates another leak point. I also had problems with the Napa pumps and the fuel line not mating well and took several back before calling and ordering one from Sirum. You can get the right pump, you can get one that will work from Napa, but it is starting to be a cr@p shoot.
We had a great ride home. Were followed by another GMCer down I-75 until we stopped for gas just north of Chattanooga. Great weekend and a big thanks to the Samsels and Slatens and Acostas and all the others that make Bean Station a great time.

I'll get you the part number as soon as I go out and get the printout that is in my Blazer. The Blazer is on a run to the store at the moment.

The NAPA part number for the exact match fuel pump that we used is:
41566
The print out also says line AFP. I do not know what that means or if it is at all important.
I'll make another posting under a clean subject line rather than this hijacked thread with the listing of all of the vehicles it fits.

Jim,
My wife and I will be in your neck of the woods in a couple of weeks. We are flying to Richmond, two weeks from today and will be hanging out with Kathy's college roommate, going to Colonial Williamsburg, visiting historic and presidential sites and then heading up to Shenandoah National Park for a few days of hiking and sight seeing. Unfortunately we can't take enough time off from our jobs to drive the GMC all that way, so it will be a plane/rent-a-car trip this time.
We're looking forward to getting away from the daily routine and seeing a new area. Both of us have been to Virginia before, individually, but never as a couple. Hope you have good weather this time of year!

Jim,
Thank you for the info. I'm sure we would enjoy a visit with the Crabs, but we have no plans to get over to Maryland this trip. The trip coordinator (Kathy) has the trip planned pretty tightly. With limited time, it has to be that way. I would love to meet you in person, but we will only be arriving on the 17th and you will be heading off to the rally in a few days after that. Maybe we could meet for lunch one of those days? I guess that would depend on both of our schedules.
We will definitely be keeping an eye on the weather forecast as the time comes closer. We went to New England at this time of year, for my daughter's college graduation, and nearly froze. I don't expect Virginia to be cold this time of year, but you never know.

well
1 have your alternator rebuilt by a local rebuilder ( replace the stator
windings- they are toasted)
2 or buy a new alternator, (not rebuilt)
3 do not rewire the coach, 100 ohms will not provide enough power to start
up the alternator ( sometimes takes 5 min for the alternator to start)
good luck

when JimB started rewiring the alternator circuit, he miss-read the print
and used 100 ohms instead of 10 ohms to replace the 10 ohm nichrome wire.
As a result there is not enought current to start an alternator, and
sometimes it takes 5 min for the alternator to self-start ;>)
this was a mistake but it continues on, -- sigh--
good luck

This is only a problem if Jim B. or someone else rewired your coach to eliminate the nichrome wire. The rewire job cuts the nichrome wire and adds an resistor in it's place. The wiring diagram clearly states that the value of the nichrome wire is 10.0 ohms not 100 ohms. That circuit excites (starts) the alternator. I worked on one once with one of these with the 100 ohm resistor. The alternator failed to start on occasion. To fix it I soldered in a second 100 ohm resistor in parallel making the value 50 ohms. I would have replaced it with a 10 ohm one but did not have one readily available. It worked OK at 50 ohms so we left it that way.
