After 18 years maintaining the World-Wide GMC Motorhome Registry I feel
the time has come to turn the responsibility over to an equally dedicated
but younger GMCer, Mr John Shotwell of Ridgefield Corners, OH who has
been working in parallel with me for the past several weeks.
Several times in the recent past, GMCNet members (as well as Jan, my
bride of 57 years) have asked "What happens to the Registry when you
pass on" Well, I can assure you I haven't passed on but increasing age
and declining eyesight are certain indicators that now is the time to
hand responsibility to someone like John who is so highly motivated.
I am especially grateful for the support I have gotten from a few special
GMC service centers like the Kanomatas, Bounds, Sirums and my super
special partner in research and collaboration, Bill Bryant. Roger Black
and Billy Massey have also been ever so helpful in making me aware of new
owners. The GMC Net has been a major contributor to bringing the numbers
to nearly 8,100 at this point. Every time a lurker shows himself or
herself, they find themselves in the Registry's hi powered searchlight.
Then there is the main core of Netters who are not shy about tracking
down an owner for any abandond GMC or stopping to grab the TZE every time
they encounter a fellow GMCer in a campground.
Thanks also to those who have supported the Registry financially. I've
always felt the effort was my contribution to the GMC Community and was
reticent to ask for money but although the service has been free for all
of it's 18 years it is not without cost. And old owners, new owners and
even non owners have been generous for which I am ever so thankful. I
trust John can expect the same support in the future.
Usually when a GMCer sells the old coach some sort of chasm develops
between the old days of seeing old friends at rallies and the post
ownership days of 'maybe' keeping in touch with an occasional email. For
me the Registry was a bridge that spanned the chasm and kept me in touch
with old friends and new friends. I recognize that there will be changes
but my driveway is still open to any GMCer and I expect to hear from all
of you some of the time.
God Bless and Happy Trails!
Kindly continue to support the Registry

David,
We have never met but I want to express my appreciation for all your efforts in helping keep the GMC and it band of followers alive. I'm sure nobody can approximate the time you have spent on the registry and related endeavors, but as anybody that has been bitten by the bug knows it's a love of labor.
I'm sure all are expecting continued reading of your future comments and thoughts and hope you find time away from the registry fulfilling. Time is short and we need to enjoy it, that's why I'm a proud owner of a GMC.
Enjoy

David,
Congratulations for what you have achieved over the past years and I for one
will be helping where I can as you know I have given you TZE's that were not
on the register and I am 17000miles away.
When I first looked at buying a GMC a few years back on my first trip to the
USA travelling all over I found a couple of coaches out the back of nowhere
and I was not familiar with the registry at the time and I have always been
sorry that I missed the opportunity to get their TZE's and location because
I am sure that they would not be on the registry. Maybe I will come across
them again one day or someone else might.
Dave all the best in winding down and cheers to John Shotwell for carrying
on the good work.
Also thanks for looking out for a E type (XKE) jaguar bonnet (hood), I am
now considering giving up on that car and looking for a replacement Jaguar
XKE series 3 roadster that is going and usable and it appears a lot of them
are in the Florida area.

Dave,
When we were at Dillard for the Eastern States rally I had no idea of what
would happen in the few weeks after that. We missed an opportunity to have a
"retirement party"!
I'm sure you must have been putting a lot of thought into the future of the
Registry and I'm quite pleased that the agreement was reached with John
Shotwell. In fact, I was so pleased that I sent in my contribution right
after seeing his name appear on the website with the link to PayPal.
From your initial interest in looking for you first motorhome to this moment
of transferring sponsorship of the Registry I'm sure you've had a pleasant
trip with many GMCers riding with you in virtual reality.
And, thanks for pointing me in the direction of Eastern States nearly five
years ago. Though we've only seen each other on two occasions I count you as
a trusted friend.
As you pass the torch I know that you'll be keeping your share of the flame.
That's just the way it is when smitten by the GMC.

Thanks Peter-It was great meeting you and Rob this past Winter/Spring and
thanks for the kind words.
I did see a nice EType Series 1 Jag bonnet last week but it was firmly
affixed to a
beautiful example of Jaguar workmanship and the owner just glared when I
asked if he would just sell the bonnet.
What color Series 3 roadster are you looking for?

Dave,
And what a contribution you have made indeed. I seldom run across a GMCer
who doesn't know your name. Sure you want to give up that celebrity status.
Thanks for all you've accomplished for us and please stick around.

David,
Thank you for all you have done over the years for the GMC community. Your list has done a wonderful thing for the "cause" and by passing it on now to John, I am sure your work will be continued for many years.
Everyone says thank you, David.

Dave -
The GMC Community was (is) certainly blessed & fortunate the day you came up with the idea for the "Registry".
Over the years, it must have been a real pain in the butt tracking and updating those endless files of yours. I, for one, can't even begin to imagine just how much time & effort on your part it took. It's amazing how accurate your files are!
I know how much help you were to me in my quest for a specific coach and your never ending willingness to offer assistance. I sometime felt like I was probably the biggest pain in the butt you dealt with during the time (over the course of a few years) when I was "searching for my ideal".....To the point of almost giving up. But with your help, as you know, I finally found it.
We've never met, but perhaps I'll get the pleasure when we come down to Florida (Indialantic) to visit my Son & his future wife early this September or visiting some friends in Naples after that.
Anyway, just wanted to say, once again, thanks for all your patience and help. It was immeasurable!
