Obviously if you carry a gun in your RV or vehicle, you must check and
comply with the laws of all the states you pass thru. Entering Canada, our RV
was inspected inside and out by sniffer dogs. And consider that it's a
federal law that commercial truck drivers cannot carry a gun in their truck. My
truck owner/driver son suggests wasp and hornet spray or a handy fire
extinguisher as a weapon. And of course, the steel bar he uses to thump the
tires. And above all, select the stopping place. Even rest stops can be
suspect.

I'm fairly new to the motorhome lifestyle and so are my folks who recently
bought a 40' SOB. They have described a couple of incidences where they
felt vulnerable in their RV and have considered purchasing a handgun. Our
family isn't necessarily anti-gun, but none of us have owned guns. I'm
feeling pretty conflicted about the whole thing as I have grade-school and
teenagers that could be at risk if there were a gun around. On the other hand,
if Rv'ers are potential targets, I want at least a deterent.
My gut feeling is I don't want one, but don't want to be nieve to the risk
either.
