Bobby, as far as I know none of the ones being sold by the Tribbles in MS
belonged to the late Danny Dunn. He had one of the earliest 1973 models
TZE063V100052 and a 1977 Coca Cola
TZE167V101912. I'm not aware of any others he owned altho that is
possible. I still show the two above GMCs under his name.
The coaches the Tribbles own (but still titled in the prior owners names)
do not show Danny as a prior owner-according to the Registry-altho that
is possible also.
Altho I strive to keep complete and accurate records the data is only as
good as the inputs provide for.
If you have any other info about Danny's coaches let me know. He did
indeed, make a heckofa tranny!

The title thing worries me. He's actually got the paper titles to
three of the four. But I'm not sure that really helps.
Supposedly whoever had them before Mr. Tribble has a valid claim on
them (perhaps as mechanics liens? Abandoned property? I don't know...)
but if he did, he certainly didn't go through the steps to put the
titles in his name.
I don't want to ask Mr. Tribble to sign someone else's name. I'm
pretty sure that's illegal.
I could go the bill-of-sale route, knowing that nobody is going to
show up to challenge me. Or hoping so.
Anyone gots advice?

I can tell you from personal experience that buying
a vehicle with a clean/clear title that had NOT been
registered by a new owner can be a big mess!
From what you say, Robin, that may be the situation
with the Tribble coaches.
I had to go through a double title transfer transaction
and pay the fees on both. Luckily, the purchase was
only $1,000 so the fees weren't TOO bad, but the
hassle was a real PITA.
I suggest that you try to do a title search from what
info you have available to ensure there are no mechanic
liens outstanding on these coaches. Is there such a
thing a "title insurance" for vehicles such as there
is for real property?

So what was the process, Mac? Did it involve dealing with whoever's
name was on the title, instead of the person that sold it to you?
I bought my 68 Catalina from the deceased owner's son, but I didn't
have a problem with him signing his dead father's name. This is a
slightly different situation. I don't need any unreasonably sized
legal headaches. I can jump through administrative hoops if i have to.

Check the Mississippi state revenue site...
If I purchase a vehicle without a title, what do I need to do to obtain a title in my name?
If you didn’t receive the title or cannot obtain a title, then you will need a title bond. Please contact the Title Bureau at 601-923-7640 for further information.

In the end it will be up to the local tag office and the state dept of revenue to help you.

The exact procedure varies from state to state. Most states have some kind of "sheriff's title." A few do not. (Idaho got rid of their's just before I needed it.) Some states it is so easy that companies have been set up to title out of state vehicles in that state... even if they have never been there! Then with a clean title you can title it almost anywhere. Still sounds fishy to me!
I did not have any problem (in Oregon) with a Texas Title signed over to a Utah resident that was signed over to me after 6 years. Just had to have it where they could visually check the VIN. That makes the 3rd one I have with antique plates!

I had no way of contacting the original title holder
and the person from whom I bought this motorcycle
was moving back to the Netherlands in a week. I just
had to work it out with the local tax people.
Just putting a suggestion to look at what might be
involved in your (or somebody else's) purchase.
On another note, I notice thay your screenname is

Robin,
The last remaining Dunn's Transmission shop is still open in Memphis. I
believe it is operated by one of Danny's sons. The phone number is 901
two seven eight 2424. I am pretty sure most of the members of his family
owned GMCs.
Maybe they can give you some info. Hey they may have been owned by the
business,

Right. And the last thing i want to do is live out a law school
Property hypothetical agianst people with money. Due to the Registry,
these things are pretty easy to track. I haven't got the specifics
nailed down on just what makes Mr. Tribble the "owner" of these rigs.
I get the impression that either Mr. Tribble or someone else bought a
building, with these sitting in it. Mr Tribble more or less said that.
There was a transmission shop involved, but I didn't catch the name.
Supposedly, whoever owned the building had ownership of the rigs.
Family perhaps? Mechanics liens for parts, labor, and storage? Maybe
it was a "land and contents" type of sale of the building, and the
rigs went with it? At any rate, Mr Tribble has 3 out of 4 of the
titles, but nothing was done to "make it official."
I just don't want some relatively wealthy and retired
time-on-his-hands guy to show up and claim that I've "stolen" his GMC.

Good luck on the title thing in MS. Every state is different. Here in Indiana we have to go through a bunch of paper work and then the vehicle is listed at a not well published auction. You get to bid and if you have a dollar claim against it (like for storage) you can use that amount in the bid.
Around here Tennessee and Mississippi are known to be very lax in these matters. So many go the Bill of sale route in those states to get a new title even though they are not residents. Then they bring the new title back here and apply for an Indiana one again.
