My driver's side has always leaked down within a couple of days.

I put a shut-off valve kit on and with the valve Off it takes about 4 days instead of 2, so I have a leak in the controls (ElectroLevel 1) and in the air bag.

Today I sprayed some soapy water on the connections and the bag. Well the bag is leaking at the roll to the cone. The leaks are pinhole size but there are a few of them. I can't see the date code but it does have some cracks there.

There was a spare airbag with the coach. I put some air in and it leaks worse with much less pressure so its not worth installing. The date code on it is DD which I figure is April '78

Is this a precursor to an immanent failure? Or?

Funds are kinda low right now!

Bruce,

I had the same issue with the bags that were on my coach, take a look at this album I shot of what I found inside the bags when I cut them open. Sure glad I never drove on them. All three of my bags were slow leakers but held air.

My spare has those abrasion marks on each end and leak there.

Anyone know anything about the "Silvertone Style" direct replacement bag that JimK has? I like the physics of the OEM setup and would like to stick with it for now.

Bruce, I have seen this bag a couple of different times. The price can't be beat. It should do ok going down the road. I would not hesitate to use it if I did not have the Q bags. Except, I use our bags to level the coach, a lot. This bag does not look like it has the travel of the original or the Q bags. I see that as the only drawback. Some folks use boards to level the coach, I don't. If you do not need the full travel you will probably like the Silverton setup. There is likely no cheaper priced bag as the Silverton, other than the one out of the Phoenix area. That one looks pretty "stiff" to me, but I have not seen it in action.

I just installed a Silvertone on the left side. At the same pressure as the
right side, it lifts to about the same height. I haven't actually measured
it at full pressure, using the system to raise it with the on-board pump to
see what the height is on both sides, I used my big compressor to inflate it
to about 100psi, then set the system to travel. Haven't measured the final
pressure on both sides.

The old bag that exploded at full system pressure, always leaked down in a
few days. Now both sides stay up without using the shut offs.
I'm driving it up to the King City GMCWS rally on Tues/Wed. It will be
interesting to see how the ride is with two different air bags.

My leaks are numerous tiny ones where the bag rolls over the cone, at least that is where I can see leaks, there maybe others, but seeing as it takes about 4 days for it to drop about 2" there can't be any major leaks.

Based on your description I think you're heading for a slow and painful
death. Start looking for something to replace the airbags. Multiple options
abound.

Can you fill the airbag off the coach and try to see if the O-ring is leaking? If so, what max psi off the coach so it doesn't blow up in my face?

Thanks

I found instructions on-line yesterday which said to test them for leaks at 40psi. I pumped my spare up to approx 30psi and tried the under-water test suggested in the article and did not see anything.
Spraying the soapy water from a squirt bottle showed the leaks easily on both the spare and the leaky one on the coach.

I sprayed the O ring area and saw no leaks.

Anyone in canada have a good spare they would like to sell?

John,
I would say that we have over 250 of these Q Bag System units running.
We had lot of help from various people that aided us in developing
instructions,suggestions and referrals.
As they say; You cannot make it by yourself.

Changed my 14 year old original (1996)air bags which would stay inflated the whole Canadian winter (5 months)for a couple of new Firestone bags and found the new ones are pourus and leak from the surface of the bag over a period of 2 to 3 months!

I have also seen this with the air springs on my Range Rovers(especially in the cold winter months) and put it down to the hand made manufacturing process being hit and miss (sidewall rubber thickness variations?).

Hand made Dunlop racing tyres also can leak air from through their thinly rubbered sidewalls ,but withstand heat, load and high speeds without failure so I dont worry too much about a bit of air leaking from the body of the airbags myself.
