Certainly I am curious as to how Laurie keeps winning the derbies. She has her weights on the rear of the coach, over the rear window. I over heard her discussing moving them around when she gets concerned someone might beat her. I should have loaned her my guitar one night and tried to talk her out of her secret. Laurie also built Ken's and it won also. No matter what, she is the overall winner. I cant wait to see her race again in Goshen. She even taunted the guys in the front row of spectators, after she put some kind of "spell" on her coach, before each run. Funniest thing I had seen in a while.
Do yall think we had fun in Patterson?
Dan

Dan,

As I understand it Laurie was one of IBM's top programmers and I reckon
figger'n how to make a wood block on wheels would come easy to her.

I know she insisted on Ken bringing her along to the convention even though
she was pretty sick with a bad cold. I was at the registration desk when she
and Ken arrived, I can tell you she was in pretty rough shape.

She wasn't taunting the other racers she was talking to her racer and
cheering it on.

I had a great time at Patterson, but that's the norm for a GMC event
anywhere, anytime, every time! ;-)

Rob M.

I hear you Rob. I called them about 11 am on the morning of their departure for Patterson to get them up and going. Laurie was sick, Ken, well, he was still asleep.
I know that girl must have an IQ way out there. I chuckle everytime she calls my name. I know it has something to do with those washers on the rear window. Maybe the "spell" she puts on the thing before each run down the track too.
Am watching them run up the Natchez Trace with Blaine and Diane. they made it almost to the Tn. line before parking it last night on some little lake. Am sure they will be rolling soon.
Dan,
no one has more fun than I do at these things

Certainly Laurie is to be congratulated. I did not examine her car so do not know her formula-perhaps she worked it out on the main frame computer.(Joking!)
But once a racer always a racer and I now have ideas for how to go faster now that I have finally raced the Pinewood.

I was surprised how liberal the "rules" were-from polishing axles to setting the GMC up to run on three wheels. I have vowed to keep all 6 wheels on the track in my quest to win.
BTW, Laurie was 1.5 seconds quicker than the next fastest time, I think. Quite a bit to overcome! Kanomata's GMC racer was in his motorhome which did not get past Bakersfield. George Baxter was quick also and he made his racer at the convention with instructions from Dale Rupp.
Ken burton's car seemed to be virtually identical to Laurie's and he won the Men's division. I am delighted to have finished 2nd in Men's and 5th overall in my first attempt at Pinewood.
Laurie may be uncatchable, but the intensitiy and competition is heating up from all sides. My wife's GMC was 31st and I caught flak for that. Hers was box stock, no polished anything as I thought that was the rule. Next time, her's will be competitive also, or I will really be in trouble......thx, Michael at GEMRECS

Michael, your wife is supposed to build her own car. Very Happy
I think I would let Teri build mine, like Laurie did Ken's. The girls seem to be more competitive. They want their husband to be a winner.

I'm being a little defensive here. I built my car and ran it a Duquoin. It did not do very well.

At Patterson Laurie was using my car as a pace car as she fine tuned her's. She ended up crashing both of them. She got some new wheels from Dale or Ray and fixed / rebuilt both cars while I was outside helping Dan on his coach. She did not tell me anything about the crashes until after she "repaired and rebuilt" both of them. Then just before the race she told me mine still had a bent axle. It was too late to do anything about it.

I think that if I replace the bent axle I can beat her at Goshen. I admit after her first run where she set a new track record I did not think mine was going to beat her. I was right, she won with the highest speed in all divisions.

She told me on the way to the rally that she was going to win the race. She told me the same thing on the way to DuQuoin. She won the women's race there also.

Oh well I guess it is back to the wind tunnel / tread mill for some more fine tuning.

With a treadmill, a gram gauge (it could be ounces), and a piece of string one can determine how much friction is being generated by any combination of wheels. Also one can determine how various lubricants affect the friction loss at the axles.

That is all I'm saying.

Rob,

For this application, Quantum Hot Sauce..but,.first set the wheels on the axle and spin at high rpm with an electric drill for 45 seconds.
Wait, maybe I should hold back my secrets until I can compete.
