Newbie to the list.

I see many people towing 3600 lb cars with their GMC Motorhomes. From what little I see, that's way above the spec.

What's the maximum and what's recommended?

My thinking is that I don't want to work the transmission any harder than I have to. We have changed to a lower final drive to help. While out for the winter we tow the Vibe gt which has a dry weight of 2700 lb. When just running around the midwest we tow the VW Baja, weighing in around 1300. I have towed a Jeep Cherokee but I did not like that at all. It was before we swapped the final drive though. The extra weight seemed to wag the front end of our coach. I think that would not happen now with the Q bags and the new wider frontend. Still, I think it must be harder on the transmission if we get too heavy.
So, I would think it just depends on how one has the coach set up and what kind of shape the transmission is in.

Larry,
There are ways to increase the towing capacity:
Aux. transmission Pan, cooler 3/8 lines, new style cooler,Final drive 3.70, etc.
Some ignore these and end up with a defective trans mission.
Keep in mind that you'll want to change the fluid more frequently as
the trans is working harder.
I pull over 6k and the coach can handle it.
Only problem is the driver in this case of not stopping to fix things
and continue driving and tearing things up.

Chris, that depends on whether or not I am watching when she does it. Remember though, we live in this thing for 4 months so I do have to let her load it pretty good. I like to carry the heavier items inside the coach when possible. To answer your question, I just don't know.

The tow bar does not add to the toung weight.
What it will do is to fight the lateral movement.
I over came this lateral momentum when we installed the Q Bag system.
Q Bag has a different spring rate than the original bag and tones down
the lateral sway considerably.
I ran a rear stabilizer bar on both before I installed the Q Bag systems.

Whoa! I guess you can upgrade it in a big way.

Just back from towing the race car around in an enclosed trailer with the SUV. Returned a whopping 7.5 mpg in WV's hills.
