I hope everyone enjoyed the pictures. Maybe some of the others posted a few for you. We have ice cream tonight so I may be finished with picture taking for this convention.
This has been a great get together. Everyone, but one old man, has just been a joy to be around. A good bit of coach work has taken place here. My compressor problem turned out not to be a compressor problem. Did not figure that out til I had taken my good one off and replaced it. So, I plugged the holes and will hang onto it in case this one ever dies. I actually liked the old one better but that may be in "my head". Ken Burton just kept on my problem like a bulldog tearing up a hamhock. He solved it and we have air again coming from the dash.
We had some local folks here. The pretty pink or puple swirled coach is from Hammond. BJ was very interesting to visit with, the owner of that coach.
It seems that as I age I appreciate these conventions more. The volunteer work that goes into these things is staggering. It is worth taking a week off work to make one of these, as severl do. By having them during the week working folks have 2 weekends to travel which is better for those living 500 miles or more away. The weekend stuff is only good if there are locals, which are normally few.
Anyway, life has been really good at this convention. If you have not yet made one, do some planning and come while you can. We never know what is around the corner in our lives. Teri and I have enjoyed every convention and hope to keep doing so for years to come.
We will see you when you get here.

So, Dan, aren't you going to tell us who he is??? There are a lot of old men there (except me this time). At least send me a private email so I can quit guessing!

Dan, always remember this. Some people would bitch if you hung them with a
new rope. No pleasing everyone, particularly those who don't want to be
pleased, in my opinion. Keep loving that wife and all your family & friends,
enjoy ice cream and M & Ms. When life is over, it is no time for regrets.

Enjoyed the pictures very much. And especially nice to have the captions. I know it took a lot of extra time Dan, but very nice.

Oh, the old codger could find nothing good to say about anything, even his own coach. Everyone here knows who he is but I do not know his name. He is a Texan. But, I found out today that he is 90 years old. I must overlook the two cussings he gave me. The poor guy really gets around good. Its just his attitude. No, it was not Ken B. I should have kept my mouth shut.
I am sure this compressor is just like my old one. I just did not feel quite as cool but don't think the compressor has anything to do with that. It will be fine. Just wish I had had someone listen before we pulled mine. The problem was,,, The engine builder stuck a washer where it did not belong. When I hit the on button the clutch hit the floor stud and sounded like a machine gun. Ken figured it all out after we mounted the second one. Then, we got the clutch too close to the compressor. Ken moved it out this morning and it works fine. I don't use it a lot but I have nothing on this coach that does not work except for the black tank gauge. The float rusted off and I am not fixing it. A flashlight down the throat of the commode works great.
Sold a boat load of these new led lights. When folks see what they do they buy them.
I am glad everyone enjoyed the pictures. I sure enjoyed taking them.

Dan's got it ALMOST right. But since I'm the one who did the final analysis
of the problem, I'll explain it: The coach has the early style front body
mounts, built up from aluminum tubes. They tell me that the engine
rebuilder did insert a washer between the lower rear compressor mount and
the rear mount on the engine. That forced the compressor too far forward by
that 1/16" or so. That was not right, but the more serious problem was that
the compressor V-belt was too long (62.0"). That allowed the compressor to
swing outward far enough for the face of the clutch to hit the rear side of
the vertical body mount strut. Thus the rapid rap-rap-rap that Dan reported
from the first -- the protrusions on the front of the compressor hitting
that strut.
Before finding that, they'd already replaced the original compressor with
the one I brought. The problem still existed, but now the strut was even
more firmly against the clutch, causing it to lock up. With the engine
running the smoke started escaping from the clutch, leading to more head
scratching.
When we found the conflict, Ken B. replaced the belt with a shorter one
(61.0"), and pulled the clutch back off enough to provide the required
clutch plate clearance, Dan's note is the first I'd heard that the problem
is now corrected.
Sure hope that compressor I sold Dan works at least as well as the removed
one. I suspect a little coolant adjustment will handle that discrepancy.
Watch those belt lengths!!!

Ken H. looked up the belt spec and said it should be 60.5 inches. we had a 62" one on the engine. I went to AZ and O'Reillys. All I could find was 60" and 61" belts. I could not get get the 60" one installed so I used the 61" one.
As Dan stated, the removal of the washer from the compressor mount moved the compressor to the rear and stopped it from hitting. I suspect it would have hit again after I adjusted the clutch clearance back out to a 3/32" gap. The 61" belt moved the compressor away from the strut so it definitely will not hit again in the future.
After that we vacuumed the system and installed Duracool. It reads 19.5 to 20 PSI at 1600 rpm. OAT at the time was around 84 degrees. It surprised me that it took 3 full cans to reach that pressure. That's where we will leave it unless it freezes up. If it does we will have to add some more. I think it will be fine where it is. I have never needed 3 full cans on a GMC in the past. I'll check the pressures sometime in the future when I see Dan and his coach again.

I'm also wondering if the newly installed engine could have ended up a 1/4" or so further forward than it was before causing the compressor clutch to hit.

Ken for some reason that clutch looks like it extends further forward than I remember but unfortunately my coach is in a remote lot.
