I raised my 3 children on a 23' and 26' GMC back in the 1970's. We had
great adventures. Now in my 60's, we are interested in getting another GMC
MotorHome to do some light traveling around the US. We can't afford a
million dollar diesel pusher and besides, we like the small size and smooth
ride of the 'ole GMC. I suppose all of the original GMC's have been
restored numerous times.?.?. ..which is a good thing. We would like to
have an 'updated" and restored version. Anyone got any suggestions? We
don't need any problems, just hours of happy traveling in the US, of course,
we realize that there will be some problems, it's a house.right? Bud

You don't say where you live, but I would contact Jim Bounds @ GMC Coop in Orlando, FL. or Jim Kanamata @ Applied GMC in California. Both do extensive restorations on GMCs, and would probably be able to steer you to a coach you would be happy with.
Even after all these years, these are still great motorhomes. There are many folks that are just discovering these coaches and the enthusiasm and knowledge base on this list is a great asset in maintaining these old GMCs.

You know, it gets a bad rap, but I bought my coach sight unseen from a failed eBay auction. I know I got lucky, but I've paid my dues. I had it taken to Tom Hampton's place where I dumped a bunch of $$ getting it safe to drive. Later Jim K's place for some more wallet thinning.
Looking back I'd have done nothing differently. She's a fun and functional coach that my family has enjoyed!

I missed part of the message you sent: If you are looking for a GMC, I have
one in Johnson City, Tx. It is a 76 Transmode. It is not fancy, but has a
lots lots of work done to it.

I did the same thing. I saw one on Sunshine Statesman's and other GMC web sites that looked good but was about twice what I wanted to pay for one. It showed up later on those sites at a slightly lower price but still too high for me. Later it showed up on Ebay but didn't meet reserve. It showed up there again and I bid just below the max I wanted to pay for it. It still didn't meet reserve and I was the second high bidder. I later got a "second chance offer" from the seller offering it for just $500 over my bid which was about 45% of what they were originally asking for it on the GMC sites. I bought it and drove it 400 miles home and then two months later drove it from Michigan to California and back. Only problem on those trips was a broken alternator belt about 50 miles north of Phoenix on the way home. I had a spare and was back on the road in about 1/2 hour.
