Just joined this group, and we are looking for a replacement condenser for our 1975 GMC Palm Beach Motorhome. Not sure what we have for choices - any advice on where to go?
Thanks, Ted

Ted,
before you pay too much for a used one check out the article that I wrote for the GMCMI newsletter back in 2004. The price has probably gone up but I think that they are still readily available.

Here is the article:
I did an article for the GMCMI newsletter #88 in July 2004.

Here is the article:

AIR CONDITIONING CONDENSER

It has been difficult for people to find a replacement condenser for our GMCs. The GM part number for the pre-May 1975 model motorhome is GM Part number. 3014916. That is still a good part number. This fits a 1968 to 1972 Olds Toronado and is an exact match. I found one on the Internet at www.acpartsnow.com, their part no. 104-25360 for $123.50. Some sites might have them for even less. Post May 1975 GMCs take GM Part No. 3034647. An extensive search indicates that this part has been discontinued and was apparently only for the GMC motorhome. I have found that you can use the 3014916 but the fitting on the tube that attaches to the short hose leading to the separator/drier is the wrong sex and the tube points toward the engine. I bent the tube forward and I took the short hose to a shop and had them replace the fitting on the hose with the correct one to match the tube on the condenser.

You will have to be careful bending the tube since it is aluminum. Do it slowly an don't try to make too sharp a bend. An alternate to bending the tube is just to have a longer rubber hose made up with the proper fittings so that the hose can be connected to the unbent tube which will be pointing back toward the engine. Other then the orientation of that tube the condensor is the same size and shape.

I just did a quick internet search and found a couple of condensers:

http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/search/?Ntt=a+c+condenser $223.81

http://www.car-stuff.com/store/?N=11440+4294962129+1686+11921+9171 $199.56

A more extensive search will probably yield more.

Just search for an Oldsmobile 1972 Toronado.

That is the evaporator coil for inside the coach.
He is looking for the condenser coil that mounts
in front of the radiator. Somebody else got the
one for a 76 that was on ebay earlier. I didn't
get back to computer in time to get that one
this morning.

I know that the listing states 77-78 but
does anyone know if that is good for a 76?

Hi

According to the parts book the condenser was changed May of 1975. It
appears that a '77-'78 condenser will fit only if your coach was made after
May of 1975.

P/N prior to May was 3014916 after May it changed to 3034647

I have no idea if the changed condenser is interchangeable.

Dave

Read the message that I sent a couple of hours ago. In that message I
said that the difference was that the top tube going to the filter/
drier on the later one was poonted to the front and the sex of the
fitting was changed. Otherwise the size and mountings are the same.

By bending the tube to the front or back and by changing the fitting
on the end of the hosteto the drier they can be interchanged.

That is great! I didn't realize you had them. They were impossible to
find a few years ago when I figured out how to make the earlier model
one fit my 77
