It is with deepest regret that I tell you of the passing of Joe this morning. Mary asked me to tell his GMC friends. I don`t know any details other than He did take a bad turn after His surgery.
Please keep Mary and family in your prayers. I was fortunate to live close and had grown very fond of Joe. I will miss Him very much.

How sad. I'm glad I got to spend some time with him at Dillard just a few weeks ago. All my family's best to Mary and Joe's other friends and family.

Chuck,
When I heard your voice on the phone, earlier today, I knew exactly why you
were calling and my mind didn't want to hear of Joe's death.
Yesterday I kept watching the GMCnet for some positive word on his
situation. Of course, there was none.
Martha and my prayers, for the days and weeks ahead, will be with Mary. Joe
was a special person. I rejoice in the fact that his heart was ten times the
size of his mouth or his ego. And, I mean that in a positive and
appreciative sense.
When we were at Dillard Joe told me what he was doing for some of the
technical schools (auto maintenance) student in his area of Tennessee. I
distinctly told Joe that he was doing the right thing and that I admired him
greatly. He enjoyed sharing his wealth of knowledge and didn't hold back.
I had already told myself that he wouldn't make it to Patterson because of
the surgery. Now comes the time of dealing with the loss of a great
individual from this present life.
Joe and his legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of many, many
people.
May God grant inner peace and strength to Mary and their friends and family
today and on into times ahead.

The body is a mysterious thing. Of this I'm certain.
It appears that the events leading up to his hospitalization, the surgery
and the recuperation process weren't compatible with his body. I understand
the physicians and medical care personnel were all taken by surprise.
Things like this happen. Life is, most often, beyond the control of our
mortal minds and abilities.

I believe that, more often than not, that there is a very real human reason
or reasons for sudden unexpected deaths following surgery. A slight slip of
the scalpel, one tug too many on a delicate suture, a stretch of a blood
vessel that results in bruising followed by clotting & resultant strokes,
over medication, or a thousand and one other possible reasons. They don't
call it medical practice for nothing. I just lost my wife Mary due to
"complications following surgery" and I really have an enormous amount of
sympathy for what Mary Mondello is going through. All of us need to greet
each sunrise with the notion that we are going to make the most of this day.
They are so very precious and it is not up to us how many more we are going
to get. Mary, please try to let your GMC family share with you your sense of
loss and add support during this very difficult time. Lean on us, we can
help.

A true legend of the old school type. Even though I no longer have an Olds engine I purchased his book and he signed it. It read "Oldsmobles Forever",,,,well,,,,Joe Mondello forever. I can't think of anyone who has authored a book and it has a GM part number and can be ordered at any GM dealership. I was truely looking forward talking to him some more,,,,,

Today was terrible.
I blew one turbo on the way to Patterson and was waiting for a tow
truck, then I get a call that literally knocked the wind out of me.
Joe Mondello and I got well squinted the past 2 years as we had done
some business trans actions and Grace and I had gotten to know Mary as
well.
I'm really privileged we got to get well acquainted with them.

I'm sorry to read about Mr Mondello. I have not had the opportunity to meet him, but read many of his articles about the Olds engine.

Rob, I really enjoyed listening to his presentation. He had Soooo much info in his head. He would get a little off track and we got lots more than what was planned and when he realized how far off the presentation he was he'd look at her and she would tip him to where he "deviated" from the program. He'd get right back on track,,,,,but it was neat. I don't have an Oldsmoble but I knew it would be great, and it was. I wish we could do a "data dump" on the greats that we've recently lost in motorsports along with the WWII vets.,,,,,PL

Some would find this aspect a reason to avoid the social side of the GMC ownership. I think this would be a mistake... would you rather have NOT met some of the departed GMC'ers?
Joe is a good example of someone I wish I would have met in person. While I am not close enough to retire, I have to work towards changing my work schedule so I can make a few rallies.
