That schematic is for Onan with electronic ignition
WITHOUT voltage regulator or fuel solenoid. I sort of
I believe there is probably a problem that is NOT
related to presence or absence of regulator wiring
hook up.

Charles needs to come by to have a look at wiring on
my coach and try to duplicate that wiring on his.

My Onan works and will hold both of the big A/C at
the same time.

Charles,
Unless you're charging the starting battery you do not need to have
the VR hooked up and in fact it has been removed by most people that
use the new converter/chargers.

Thanks gene, but the 'before' is too dark to tell where each wire goes to and there's none in the 'after' picture.

Looks like you are getting some serious help. Good. BTW, because you use the misspelling of "Onan" in your title, these responses will not show up in a search of the list or forum.
Remember that when you title your new threads, people, please use meaningful topics.

Ok I'm looking at a wiring diagram out of the "Onan Major Service Manual for the NH Power Drawer on page 53.

It shows that there are 2 connections to VR1 (the voltage regulator).

The VR1 terminal with one connection is a wire going to control board pin 5.

The VR1 terminal with two connections goes to Control board pin 8 and a second wire going to the internal alternator.

I do not have a picture of the actual regulator. I just have the wiring diagram in front of me so I can not tell you which pin is which on the regulator.

Why, oh why, didn't Onan use color-coding on its
wiring or at least, individual wire numbering?

Some NH models have three terminals on the regulator.

It is color coded , "Green" so you know it is Onan wire.

Done did that...cant tell..
I have two larger wires that are the same size, female connector
there is 1 wire slightly smaller, female connection,
There is also a male connection with a round sleeve on it..

Can someone definitively tell me either..
which two to hook together abeit disconncted from the VR and which ones then dont have any connection but to tape up..

or

Which wire goes on which terminal and what does the male connector with sleeve go to? (Not fuel pump. I have a black wire going there).

Thankx

All my Onans have single color wiring harnesses. (High temperature wiring.) There also appears to be several different versions of the harness... the Voltage Regulator wiring is different in some of them.

I suspect you are going to get out a meter and trace out your wires. (Sorry to tell you this but it is a good skill to have.)

Do you still have a fuel shut-off solenoid? It has wiring very much like the fuel pump and might be where your "extra wire is from. (It is often removed. There IS a reason for the solenoid, but many say you do not need it.)

Since we have been told that those wires go to
the voltage regulator for charging the dedicated
"GENSET" battery I am quite sure now, that your
problem does NOT reside there. I don't know
enough about the overall wiring and function
of the starting and running circuits, I'd guess
there is a relay or safety interlock somewhere
that is the TRUE root of your problem. Might
even be the low oil pressure safety interlock.

I'm home most every day, but will be headed to
Grand Lake on Thursday to start removing all of
our personal articles from our boat that has
been declared a total loss due to storm damage.

Mac

Yes, but two of those wires must be connected together for the Onan ti
run.

Thanks for that info, Emery. When Charles
comes by tomorrow, we'll go down to my
coach and eyeball things in person. THEN,
we will go to try to duplicate things on
Charles' coach and see what happens.
