Jesse,

I bought valve stems from Meyer Tire Supply for about $3.98 each for my
Alcoa rims.

Could it be different valve stems? How about guides? Yeah, that's the ticket. Mea Culpa. And, you being a caddy man, I would have thought you would have recognized that. <g>

Rob

Didn't your Alcoas come from the factory with stainless steel valve
stems already installed?

Jesse,

There are two different types of valve stems for the Alcoa's; one seals with
an O-ring (Series TV-54X) the second seals with a silicone rubber gasket
(Series TV-55X).

The filtered Schrader valves provided with the Equal Balancing powder WILL
NOT FIT in the TV-543. They WILL FIT in the TV-553 valve which is what I
have on my Alcoa's.

I have NO IDEA if the filtered Schrader valves will fit in any of the other
valve stems in either series.

The ones I paid $3.98 for were the TV-553.

I just posted the page out of Haltec's catalog with these valve stems on the
photo site, it is a .pdf file.

Emery,

I do not know what material the valve stems were made of that were in the
Alcoa wheels when I bought Double Trouble.

When Ken Frey mounted my Kumho KL-78 tires he put Equal balancing powder in
them. When we tried to install the filtered Schrader valves they would not
fit so we left the "standard" Schrader valves in them.

I found that the powder caused problems when checking the tire pressure so I
contacted Equal tech support and they told me that that tire stems were
machined differently and that the Haltec TV-553 valves would work with their
filtered Schrader valves.

I contacted Myer Tire Supply in Houston and ordered 16 of them (7 for Double
Trouble and 7 for The Blue Streak plus two spares).

When they arrived I took the wheels to a local truck tire shop and had them
dismount the tires, vacuum out the old Equal powder, install the TV-553
valve stems with the filtered Schrader valves and put a 4 ounce package of
Equal in each wheel.

I believe the Haltec TV-553 tire stems are nickel plated brass.

I now can check the tire pressure without any problems plus I can install a
tire monitoring system and be assured that the pressures are being read
correctly.

Regards,
Rob M.
