I am looking at tires and wondering if anyone has personal experience with "Definity Dakots H/T tires from PepBoys.

I generally stay away from "off brand" tires, but from what I researched, these are apparently made by Cooper for Pepboys. FWIW even made here in the US.

They have generally gotten good and very good reviews elsewhere online, and was hoping someone here may have tried them out.

Load range E, 60000 (prorated) warranty, and has a buy 3 get 4th free deal.

Here is a link to pepboys site. The third one down:

I know there are a thousand and one opinions on tires, but hoping someone has personal experience with this tire or brand.

If someone else has suggestions on a good proven CHEAP tire, I'm all ears. I know, and have heard the "you get what you pay for" adage, but also know that there are plenty of quality tires at reasonable prices out there.

Thanks!

I bought a set of Dakota Definity tires from Pep Boys
(buy 3, get 1 free) for my wife's Explorer a couple of
years. They wore very quickly and I had to replace them
at about 25,000 miles.

I did NOT, repeat NOT, like them at all!

What I think I "know" about tires. My son works in the shop part of a tire store. They do anything from a wheelbarrow to 18 wheelers. He's seen and dealt with lots of brands of tires. His opinion, passed on to me is that you really do get what you pay for. Now tires for an MH that had good wet and dry grip, didn't cause unusual handling, were round and balanced well, but wore out in 25,000 miles aren't terrible. If one only drove 4,000 miles per year, the tires would be close to age out and wear out at the same time. They have sold some big truck tires that were requested by the purchaser that were worn out in 3 months. The buyer then didn't think he had made such a great deal. But if a trucker is low on money and needs tires NOW for whatever reason, maybe tires that only last 3 months aren't such a bad idea. He thinks most European made tires are pretty good, some North American tires aren't bad but there are some he would NOT reommend. There are specific countries they now try to avoid.
Yes at the front end the price is good but.........
Before I bought a brand of tire even if I knew who the manufacurer really was, I'd try to find opinions on the specific tire. Unfortuneately we don't have Pep Boys in Canada so I can't ask him what he's seen with their house brand of tire.
If the tires have a nation wide road hazard warranty, and there are not reports of spontaneous failure, and poly side walls are availbe, maybe worth a try.

How many GMC coaches put on 25,000 miles in 5 or 6 years?

Thanks for the thoughts everyone.

This specific tire has gotten great reviews on other sites, though application has all been in trucks and not motorhomes from what I have been able to find.

40,000 seems reasonable and well within what I hope to run over the life of the tires. I may be the test subject here, but we'll see what the total cost comes out to. After closer inspection, the buy 3 get the 4th free requires road hazard, and "mounting package" so may not end up being a deal... or rather, may not end up being worth being the guinea pig!

Don,

I am in the process of replacing the 6 year old tires (w/ over 30,000 miles on them) on my GMCMH. I'm putting them with the same brand (Bridgestone). Never had a days problem with them, except for a nail thru a side just above the tread. Maybe I should pick up a set of slicks for drag race rallies. Wink
