Unbelievable, after the new Aluminum manifold, speed sensor, CCD distributor, EFI with the EBL, miles of new wire, knock sensor, lights, LP and HP fuel pumps and all the rest the sucker fired right up with probably the best idle it has ever had. I can't believe it. If it wasn't so early I'd start drinking.
Thanks, Randy, George. Ken and all for your help.

Gary,
Congrats on getting everything installed and running! I was just down the hill from you last Sat. I listened but didn't hear the 455 fire up . We are in Oklahoma City, OK now and will be home tomorrow. Wondered if you checked the timing after getting things going? I've been concerned about the variances I have been seeing in the static timing. Some have had a little rough idle during cold warm-up. Sounds like your idle is doing good. I think the .bin I sent you last has some of the "tweaks" done for idle but let me know if you see any issues with idle. I think you will like the way it performs with the EBL. Good luck with your additional testing!

Hi Randy,
I have an ex-ASE GM mechanic friend of mine coming over Monday and we'll do
a full timing check and then some testing with other BINS. I saw a
Powerpoint I think that indicates you have to move the throttle position
sensor a bit to get idle speed up. Do you have to do that with the EBL?
Idling at about 650 rpm now.
Thanks,

Gary,
No, the computer commands the idle speed. There are two parameters that control the idle and are found in Tables / Functions. They are IAC - Idle Speed: Drive and IAC - Idle Speed: Park/Neut. Our application can't tell when we are in one or the other - defaults to Drive most of the time. I change both parameters. You can change across the board by selecting all entries and multiplying by 1.20 for a 20% increase.
This controls the idle speed, however, there is a procedure to calibrate the Idle Air Control (IAC) and the TPS. Look here for the instructions: <https://sites.google.com/site/gmcmhefi/ebl-tips-folder/ebl-tips---initial-iac-calibration>.
For the timing, I'm curious after you set the static timing (tan wire disconnected) to 8 degrees what happens when you come off idle to about 1500 rpms. Does it stay at 8 or advance or retard? Also, I would like to know what happens if you set the main spark table to 8 degrees across the board and with tan wire reconnected watch the timing mark at various rpms. Does it stay on 8 degrees?
Sounds like some good help coming. Let me know if you find anything else we all should be aware of.

Where and when do you plan to eat breakfast, Randy?
I'm unfamiliar with Expo Center. As Ricky Riccardo would say, "Splain."
Charles Wood, are you in here tonight? Are you game to meet with Randy
and Margie near Shawnee for grub in the morning?

I have read with much interest progress in the GMC EFI arena. I spent more on my carburetor and ignition systems than I would have on an EFI.
Before I install EFI and venture into the EBL world with my GMC, I wanted to know if I could practice by modifying the programs in my wife's car. It is a port injected 98 Acura.

Doug,
You could go to the Dynamicefi site and see if they make one for the Acura.

Doug,
I don't think playing with your wife's car would be that helpful:
1) she might not like it.
2) It is an OBD II system and would require an investment in software and equipment to be able to interface. Even then, I'm not sure how modifiable it is.
3) Each manufacturer's systems, while similar in nature, vary in how they manage fuel and spark.
4) Anything learned (not much info on the net on how to do this for an Acura) would not apply to any of the EFI approaches being used for the GMC.
Probably the best bet is to do more reading and try to understand how the parameter works in the efi systems that people are putting into the GMC. This varies from the 80s EFI systems typically using a 7747 ECM (Howell, Turbo City, AFI) and perhaps with EBL added, to 3rd party add on systems such as MegaSquirt, FAST, etc. One could download a copy of TunerPro (<www.tunerpro.net> and find a sample .bin and look at all of the parameters to see how a typical program is laid out. The dynamicefi.com site as a lot of good information on the parameters with short explanation. There is also a good tuning guide there.
Also, keep in mind that once installed and running good, an EFI system rarely needs any attention. We play with it because we can

Thanks for the replies. I will check out the Dynamicefi site and will talk with Terry Taylor on the merits of changing my GMC to EFI.
