Getting deep into bedroom remodel. Currently stripping insulation and fixing wiring and leaks. Puzzled by location of fresh water fill, which on my 76 PB is under driver's side rear window. The tank is located under passenger side dinette seat. Anybody know why they would put the fill on the opposite side? Anyway, thinking of moving it. Saw someone had moved theirs to behind the license plate, but as I recall their goal was having an uncluttered side, while mine is to shorten the fill hose and get it out of the way, because I plan to relocate chargers and inverters to behind the battery compartment, and don't like the idea of a water hose running on top of the electricals. I know cutting holes in the side and patching existing holes is not fun or trivial, but I've already got major scope creep going on, so what's one more "oh-and-then-you-could..." LOL

Any tips gratefully accepted.

Probably on the driver's side because the electric hook up is there and in most campgrounds the supply is on the driver's side.
And the dump tube...?

J, my guess is same as Harry's. Now, you can leave your city hook up there and move the filler hole if you want. My city water hookup is in the electrical box, on driver's side. I have a fillup up for the tank under the lid in the lp tank area. My tank is crossways under the bed. We never use the city hookups for water. I like using my own tank and pump. The good thing about our coaches, we can modify to suit our own needs.

My 75 Palm beach has the fresh water fill in the propane compartment, and the city water connection is on the driver's side by the electrical hookup. The fresh water filler is just under the hinge at the back of the compartment, and does work OK.

As it's dependant on gravity to fill the fresh water tank, it needs to be mounted high up in the compartment. My old one also had a hose connector on the fresh water filler, so that would allow another option for filling the tank. I don't think there's any magic to the location of the filler.

Harry, you're right, though I have been to a few military MWR campgrounds where the sites were thought up by someone who knew nothing of RVs. I was surprised a few months ago when the MWR supervisor on the base that I used to work at, asked me and a few others who had motorhomes and trailers if we could bring them on the center. They are building some RV sites and wanted to get an idea of where to put the electrical/water hookups. They will start with a dump station because of cost but even looked at where sewer outlets would be needed in the future.
The inlets and outlets locations seem to be done to an industry
standard. While the internal tank and panel locations are "where ever they will fit and work".

While you are tearing things up, get some potable service hose, 2-ea barb tees of appropriate size and a ball valve with bard ends (or a valve and to barb adapters) and about 8 clamps and . . .
Put a by-pass around your potable pump.
Two things....
When you are feeding from city water, you can open the valve and press up (fill) the potable tank.... And
If your pump air binds like mine does, crack a tap and the valve until the pump gets a hold of water.
Of all the mods, this is the best ROI of all. (My wife might say it is hanging the 20$ micro wave under the stove hood, but she never had to fight the potable pump.)

I don't know if 76 still had the check in the line near the pump, but you may need to find that first.
