I want to paint my GMC. Probably won't happen for a couple years. But,,,,,I used to have a blue and silver two tone Chevy van,,,,85. Was our very first brand new vehicle. Now, we were very poor and this was a big step after a new better paying job. Just loved that color. So,,,(stick with me) Just looked at JB latest update from the COOP. Nice looking foto of a 23. If theres any one out there thats really good with computers(i'm not) and is snowed in or healing, has a bunch of time and can manipulate a foto of a 26 rear bath. I'd love to see a silver over blue or blue over silver foto of a rear bath, that's simular to the 23 on the coop site. Maybe with the upsweep of the blue after the windows over the beds. Just thinking out loud and wishing for more time to work on mine. The development of the new dash is going really slow.,,,the 7 grandkids keep us really busy. And we have 2 wonderfull little girls(3,5) after 2 every other week. Youngest son is on 2nd shift. Can't wait for it to warm up some.,,,,,PL

Paul,
I have a 26' side bath, and I also love those mid-80's GM blue & silver 2-tones, and have always had a simple blue lower & silver upper look in mind for my coach. As much metal flake in there as possible . . . I'm far enough away from doing it, that I haven't thought about designs too much. Sounds like Bryan Songer on this board is really good at it, but figured I'd wait till I was a lot closer to when I was ready to do it, otherwise, it will just gnaw at me more till I get it done.

Unless you want to repaint your coach every 5 years, I think it's important to pick a long lasting design. We have all seen schemes and colors on cars, trucks, and RV's that immediately date the machine. In my case I think GM design staff had the vision for an enduring design that has weathered 20 to 25 years so far.

Paul,
I'm not sure. If you mean the one he mention's is Al's on the daily pose, (kind of dark gray, light gray), I have now. I can't say why, but there is something about the diagonal thing that I'm just not fond of, even though the upsweep in the rear section seems to be a real popular scheme. It's a great looking coach, it's just not me.

Maybe I'm just too boring, but I kind of like the 26' one that is 2nd one down on his Exterior refinish page. <http://www.gmccoop.com/paint28/index.htm> It's just about the shades of Blue and Silver I like, and if you swapped the mid band of silver with the upper gray, so it was basically lower half blue and upper 1/2 silver, I think I'm there. I haven't figured out what to do with the roof yet. From a scheme standpoint, in my mind it would be silver, but you sure hear a lot of people recommend white. As a midwesterner, not sure how much southwest sun I ever have to worry about. I'm hoping to cover a non-trivial part of it with solar panels before I do paint, so maybe not that big of deal either way around.

But, it's probably 5 years or so before I can remotely think about painting it. So, I think I'll just collect pictures for awhile. I have a few already somewhere, and plan on getting some more at the fall GMC MI in Elkhart, which is only about a 3 hour drive for me.

Send a note to Byron Songer. If you have a sketch, he can render it on the computer.

Paul,

I believe you're talking about this coach. Correct?

http://www.gmccoop.com/Al-alignment-3.jpg

As one or two others have pointed out, I can do an artistic rendering. My
assumption is that you have a 26 but I'd like to know what model -- where
the windows are.

If you're interested, let me know. Also, if you have a photo of your 85 on
computer, attach it and send to me at bsonger@songerconsulting.net.

Some of what I've done, graphically, is at http://www.gmceast.com/technical.
Go down the list and look at the presentation Repainting the GMC Motorhome.
There are some photos as well as several illustrations I did for the
presentation. You can also go here for a look at other work I've done.
http://www.songerconsulting.net/gmcmh/index.html or
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=1706

I'm with Bob de Kruyff, there are some designs that will wear better than
others for the long haul but the final decision is yours.

Yes,,,I really like that paint job on the 23". A lot of nice designs I see won't work for me because I have a 78 Royale rear bath. So the windows are father forward than others. I'll give a look for a photo but I don't know if I've got one,,,,thanks,,,,,PL

Get the body pic from the Eastern States site, put it on MicroSloth Paint and start drawing. If you have a thought, try to draw it in. You don't have to be able to draw, just try it. when you get an idea you think you like, ask someone what they think of it.

The advantage of PAINT, is you can save them and draw another design. you will end up with a sampler of your ideas, easy simple and interesting to see the different designs when done.

For inspiration, look at the Coops site, I think JimK has some, look at the ralley pics, look at for sale pics, the ideas for design are overflowing and only you can decide what is for you.

The least you can do is paint the coach one color, maybe an original GMC motorhome color. Then, you might add the GMC OEM stripe, that would be mimicing the OEM production design and it does not take rocket science to draw it.

Go from there, fill in spaces of the stripe, make it thicker, thinner, add curves, add a thick strip along the bottom of the coach or make it parallel lines. Play with the design, thats how ideas start.

you are not in a place alone, we all have been there, go for it.
Good Luck

There you go Marsha

Mr Boyd has the link for you. It will take you right there.

I will give a hint...

depending on how the drawing is saved, the pixels might corrupt when saved. When this happens, you are not able to change the entire space when you use the "fill with color" tool.

In that case, you can use the eraser to clean the space then save as a TIFF. It won't corrupt the color and then you can change the color with the "fil with color" tool.

Another trick, if you want to have a background and windows with an interior, look for a pic of a GMC with a side shot.

It will take time but you can erase the body color then you can draw and fill in color as you wish.

It looks more interesting when the GMC sits in an outside setting.

Always save in TIFF if you want to continue drawing so the color wont bleed or corrupt.

Did you get the link for the APC??? It is an important item to preserve the dash wiring.
